Anyone know of a magic trick that will remove a broken off glow plug in a diesel engine? Two of the six plugs in my Benz refuse to move even after soaking in PB Blaster for a week.
I am glad that I kept my old Dodge truck with a Cummins engine….no glow plugs. I have something to drive while I wait for a miracle cure for the stuck plugs in the Benz.
What the world needs is a car with a 50% scale copy of the 12 valve ISB Cummins engine.

is this an OM617.952 engine, or a later OM603, etc.?

I would suggest using a heavy dose of redline diesel fuel catalyst, 85, etc., with some hard driving to help remove coking around the plug, which is usually the problem. After that gently begin to budge it, and see how it will go.

Definitely purchase the correct glow plug reamer to use after you get it out, and crank the engine without glow plugs in it to help blow the carbon out.

It's the straight 6 engine with 4 valves per cylinder. The intake manifold has to come off to get at the plugs. I was hoping to not have to put it back together until it was fixed.

ugh, thats rough... Usually there is carbon stuck around the shaft of the glowplugs themselves (and they are long ones in that engine!)... I doubt it is a metal on metal issue, as when we changed the plugs in my father's 96, they came out easily, and didnt look like dissimilar metals interactions were an issue... but I do know that carbon stuck on the plug shaft is a problem...

Check out mercedesshop for lots of loyal MB owners that have issues like this from time to time...
