STP/Havoline for Briggs Stratton Craftsman

Thinking of buying the STP/Havoline deal at AZ for 16.99 or whatnot. Anyway from what I hear, the same filter for my truck fits on Craftsman Riding Tractors. Im not going to use a STP filter on my truck, as I am not a big fan of ECORE designs. But I will use it on the old riding lawnmower.

Anyway, Its 5 qts Havoline and a STP filter.

I could buy a Purolator for my truck on top of this and it would come out to around 20$ and some change. Im sure the lawnmower dont take more than a QT, so it would come down to

4QTS Havoline + Purolator for my truck
1QT Havoline + STP for my Lawnmower.

Think I could do this? Ill buy individual quarts, 5w30 for my truck as I doubt Havoline has 5w20, what should I buy for the Lawnmower, Same 5w30 or 10w30?

If it takes more than 1 qt, I have 5w30 Peak Synthetic/Dino mixed in a jug in the shed, all those Oil Change jugs I always have 1 qt left from my truck, so I just toss them all in one big jug for general oil
 
I try and get a good price on oil & filters I buy, but almost never change what I am going to buy based upon a sale of something else. But thats me.

The cost for a vehicle is so much compared to the cost of oil and filters.

Maybe if I had a daily beater that burned oil.

+1, I always buy the best (or what I believe is the best) and pay the least for it I can (I look for specific sales on what I like/use.) I will not just buy anything for my vehicles (investments/transportation) based on what's on sale.
 
Alright guys, I never said I INSISTED on using this.
Havoline is good stuff, I just wouldnt use a STP Filter on my truck. I dont like ECORE design when I can get a better filter for the same price. Thats the main beef I have with FRAM and other products, why spend 3-5$ on something when a better product is the same price?

Im just saying, Havoline is 19.99 everyday out the door here, so naturally Id buy it with the STP filter. as it will knock the overall price down lower and Ill score a free filter to sell to someone who dont care about filters, or use on the mower.

for free I'd use an ECORE on a mower, yes. My Truck, No.
I can live without a mower if anything was to happen, I couldnt survive without my daily driver.


To each his own, Ill bash FRAM or an ECORE filter all day. Some people only use ECORE or Fram.

The closest thing Ill use to an ECORE is in my dads saturn l200, because almost all cartridge filters for that car are the same, except the K&N, and I highly doubt a K&N in a Saturn is needed for 19.99
 
Just ran down to AAP for oil and a filter

Motorcraft FL400S and QSGB 5w30 is going in
Briggs and Stratton OEM Oil + Filter is coming out

OM says 5w30 OR SAE 30 for +32F, so I went with the 5w30
Just glanced at the AAP Lawnmower Aisle, as I never really look at it. I picked the MC filter over the DW filter that was 9.99 for "Lawnmower Appilcations" the only difference I saw was the Lawnmower DW Filter was black, the DW filter for my truck (Thatll fit the Lawnmower) was white. oh and the + 7.99$ lol
 
ooh yeah! This Craftsman is now 100% Clean!

Question though, B&S Website states:

"Synthetic 5W-30: -20°F to 120°F (-30°C to 40°C)
provides the best protection at all temperatures as well as improved starting with less oil consumption.

5W-30: 40°F and below (5°C and below)
is recommended for winter use and works best in cold conditions."



Alright, I call [censored], 5w30 is 5w30, regardless of Synthetic or Dino.
 
Though IDK why noone is answering my questions BUT

5w30 should be fine right? 5w30 is 5w30 at 40 degrees and above the same at it is at 40degrees and under which the manual says ONLY FOR 40 DEGREES AND LOWER
 
They mostly recommend that because of the fear of a dino 5W-30 at exceptionally high temps causing a substantial amount of shearing.

I use QSGB 5w30 occasionally in my truck and cars here with no major shearing?

Your car is also a water cooled engine. OPE engines are primarily air cooled and see higher temps on average. For any give weight comparing dino to sythetic, dino does not have the margins in an air cooled engine to last as long as a synthetic.

Also, most OPE motors are running around 3600 RPMs the whole time. Your car is only seeing those numbers during brief driving intervals.

OPE makers just did not pull it out of their rear end when they recommend only a synthetic for the lower oils in their equipment.
 
Meh, the store brand Auto Zone filter, currently called STP, was used for adding 200 k miles to my 150 k, 8 yr old BMW. I ran these filters with Walmart Supertech 20w50 dino oil. I use this combo on all my cars. Since hanging out here I have gone from 3k OCIs to 5k OCIs. When you buy name brand oil and filters, you are merely paying to support their advertising budgets.

If all turns out better, I may just swap my truck to 5w30 Synthetic, and reuse the old filters and oil in the lawnmower!
