Yes, I did several searches and didn't find the answer so here we are:

The STP 9018R cartridge oil filter for the 2.2L Ecotec "Made in India." Anyone have specs/know who makes this filter?

The STP filter looks EXACTLY like the Wix Napa Gold filter but with more media.

Thanks,
-Paul

I believe it's made by Champion Labs. I believe there's a 1-800 phone number on the box to call for technical information as well, and it is Champion Lab's number.

All of the ones I bought were made in Korea, by the way...and Autozone seems to not sell any STP filters anymore.

Did you buy yours at Autozone?

Yes, I bought mine at AutoZone. I got quite a few of them with that $20 gift card. All my STP ones say: Made in India.

The Napa Gold does say: Made in Korea.

Hahahaha - It never occured to me to look on the box!!! "Distributed by Champion Laboratories."

What do you guys think of the STP oil filter's quality vs a Wix or Napa Gold?

If I remember correctly, all the Champion plants are in the USA. You could compare the STP to a ST 9018. Look for details like the mold numbers on the end caps. Champion may not have tooled up to build the cartridge elements and be buying them from somebody else. 4 years ago, I bought the same Perflux 264 in an AC, Hastings, and gasp, aruugh a Fram box. I have used up my stock of $3 L15435's and need to happen on to another deal. Last Pep boys sale, they were out.

Next time there's a Pep Boys sale, find out when they get their shipments in--then show up the next day to get all of the L15435s you need.

I just picked up an ST9018, and an L15435 tonight. FWIW, the ST has 25% more pleats, and is a Made in India model vs. the PP made in the US. The media is different, with the ST appearing thicker. The ST box says a 99% multi pass rate, the PP says 96%. Which is better? I don't know, as I have no way to judge the efficiency of the media, but the ST looks like a better quality filter. The PP was 60 cents less at AA.

You guys in the midwest-east coast are lucky. You actually have Advanced Auto stores

.

My PepBoys used to carry a Purolator filter for my car but haven't replaced the ones I bought earlier this year.

I guess I'm stuck with ordering Wix off of Amsoil, Napa Gold @ Napa, STP @ AutoZone (getting hard to find), or Fram at Wally World.

Out of those above do you know which one is the best?

Wix or Napa but if you oil test you are getting UOAs on these. I would have no problem paying an extra $2 to buy one filter over the counter if the only way I'd save that $2 is to buy 60000 miles worth of filters to rust up in the garage.

I had an MB280C with a cartridge filter and ended up with filters souced all over the world including prolines from India. Some filters # you're happy if they even have one.
