Sandy came from the sea. She is bigger than any storm anyone can remember. We have seen storms before, but this one is different and the timing is perfect. Sometimes a storm warning is a greater warning. Sometimes when you need something it is never early, it is never late, it is always on time and imho, this storm is on time, in the right direction and we ,me and you are not in control................hmmmmmmm

I don't see that. I see weather professionals indicating the potential of this storm is great. "Potential" is not a prediction; it is a probability.

Hey I just noticed the world series if over....

Typical alarmist media. We get this all the time.

About once a month during the winter months, a local weather man will be yelling "OH MY GOD THIS STORM IS GOING TO KILL EVERYONE IN CENTRAL NY. THERE'S GOING TO BE 50 BILLION FEET OF SNOW, IT'S GOING TO BE -500000000000 FARENHEIT, 5 MILES OF ICE. EVERYONE IS GOING TO DIE. ITS THE END OF THE WORLD. 300 MPH WINDS."

Then we get a dusting of snow and it gets down to 23 out.

It is here. The rain is coming in sideways, due to gusty winds.

Hopefully the wind wont get to be too great.

I do think the media is pretty alarmist over this stuff...

"biggest storm we have ever seen" is one of the comments... But there is no context. Ever seen on this fancy radar? Ever seen in this area? Ever seen how?

I dont deny that it is big, and though cat I, is strong and wet for the area that it is going to make landfall. It isnt hitting Miami...

But it would be nice to see metrics or comparison.

The media really over hyped this thing. Its here, a little rain and wind nothing special a whimper at best.
Funny thing though, the storm that really knocked power out for 21 days+ a few years ago was totally missed by the forecasters.
Sometime i don't think they can forecast what they are having for lunch.

It was a whimper for us yesterday. The eye was 450 miles south... Likely it is for you today at a location relative to where it was for us yesterday.

I was outside and there was hardly any rain.

They said last night that it would hit land between Stone Harbor and LBI, NJ. Looks like it will be more south (Stone Harbor) and go over Wilmington, DE instead of Philadelphia.

So up in MA it may not be a big deal at all...

Yep that's probably going to be the case.
Course it doesn't stop the media here from predicting we will all be blown into next Tuesday unless we walk around with a few concrete blocks and maybe a chain to hold us down. Sensationalism at its best.

raining pretty good here in the lehigh valley, track looks to go right through us and hang a right at harrisburg.
lots of schools and govt work closed today, I'm at work but have the option of leaving if I choose.
tomorrow looks like a better day to stay home.

Local weather has awesome shots of waves pounding Scituate and Chatham. Low lying areas are planning to evacuate before the noon high tide. Schools are closed, non essential personnel are ordered to stay off the roads. I'm om standby at home.

The storm surge is what's going to make this nasty. I think people are getting a false sense of security by just some heavy rains and winds. Tues/Wed will be interesting.

Yes I feel your pain. My guy had to be put down last April, he too was 16. So far and I am talking about a long time, that day I brought him to the vet was the worse day of my life. We make them into humans and we wind up with a perfect human. So I joined a rescue for his breed a rare one Shiba Inu,and I hope it gets better. He could not walk but I carried him, he got sick and I cleaned up, but I was keeping him alive for me, not fair.

Storm surge is going to be the main problem, but also, the storm is strengthening and if it slams into NJ with 90mph sustained winds, it's going to do some damage. Probably nothing as bad though as many in the media are saying.

Coastal damage To exceed damage from the March '62 ash Wednesday storm which is the benchmark for NJ barrier island destruction.

Here's hoping the storm's coastal impact IS overhyped.

I'm inclined to say that people are grossly underestimating what storm surge is. They think it'll just be some clogged storm drains. Have people completely forgotten about Irene already?

Perhaps they have; estimated 6-11ft in LI Sound and parts of Old Saybrook and New London CT are already taking on water, and we are 4 hours into it; no rain has fallen. I believe we are past high tide however.

I think you may be right.
