Storm Sandy is here

Hope for all the people in the atorm area are safe and took precautions. Yeah the weathermen go bonkers over storms, but on the other hand if they didn't and it really hit then they'd be hammered for not saying enough. I guess sometimes it all depends on if the storm takes a shift. It is always just a prediction based on computer models.

to all those people who say this storm is overhyped, you must be on another planet, but then those folks are what is called pot stirers just to rile up others imho

Not even raining here. Far less water than anticipated. But who knows what the wind will bring. Nasty flooding in some places.

The marina where I keep my boat and grew up is washing away right now, my uncles house is also probably washing away.

I'm just going to sit here and kill time until the sun comes up, drinking beer and maybe a martini or two. Tomorrow is going to be busy I think.

OTOH the electric grid I'm on is proving to be remarkably reliable.

I too am surprised about the grid. Lots of power dips, turned most everything off and unplugged, but still have power. One town over (about a mile) friends dont though...

But for all the blips and dips, it has stayed on for us, fortunately...

I was on the back porch last night here in upstate ny. we got very lucky here in the mohawk valley with the rain... the wind was brutal... roaring. biggest wind i've ever been in...
still blowing good here at 7am... people south of here got the rain too... nyc and jersey ugly...

windy cool sunny yesterday in Chattanooga tn. Nice this morning, so move south , avoid the confusion of the New England states and the overcrowding of NY, and so on. Peace is worth more than overcrowding and all the fun they have up north.

Didn't Tennesse have some massive flooding within the past year?

its amazing what happened to the boardwalks on the shore town. The boardwalk in our favorite town, which they had just redone, is completely shot.

Same here.

In an attempt to find out more info about storm damage where I grew up, I was watching a few live web casts of NY/NJ stations. Fruitlessly.

Ambulant people really need rescuing from knee high still water in 5 ton trucks and rescue boats?

This is the most interesting thing reporters can stand in front of and repeat their inane dribble?

Probably going to have to join twitter to see storm damages along the Jersey shore other than Atlantic City.

We walked around the Cooper River, two blocks from my home. The water that came up here is far less severe than we saw when we did the same survey after Irene.

I see lots of pictures of vehicles submerged in flood waters.

I am saddened for the grief people are dealing with from this event and do not want to come off as a jerk. But, was there not enough time or other reasons that people did not move their vehicles to higher ground?

Again, my thoughts and prayers to those living (and dying) through this ordeal and the clean up that will follow.

Well, the gov of CT is relaying a story about how a woman in Greenwich CT congratulated him on how he was handling the storm. She went on to indicate that she chose to ignore his advice to evacuate because she never did in the past.

She lost both of her vehicles in the deluge.... he indicated.

Some people just don't believe it can happen.
