Storing opened oil container?

I use 6 quarts of Castrol Euro 0w40 per oil change. The 5 quart bottle at Walmart is a great price at under $23. However, I've been buying a single quart at $7 at the LPS as to not leave an open container sitting for a few months.

Can i just open another 5 quart and leave the container with the cap and use it during my next oil change? Oxidation? Depending on conditions, the oil change could happen in 2-3 months, or 5-6.

Vacuum pack it and store it in a 19.8C temp. No light, moisture or spiders.

Kidding, close the lid and use it splash by splash for the next 50 years.

Just snug the cap and store the jug anywhere you like. Unused oil in the original container is in much better shape than in any engine.

If you don't like oil in opened container, when Pep Boys, O'Reilly ... have Castrol on sale buy some quarts and use 1 quart at a time with 5-qt jug from Walmart.

Put a couple layers of cling wrap over the hole and cinch down the cap real good. Done.

I store mine in a cabinet in my garage. Agree with MrQuackers. Cling wrap top and cap bottle tightly.

There is a subset of people here that treat their car better than their body. Care more about their motor oil than the food they eat.

Paranoia. Oil can protect an engine due for thousands of miles in all extremes but it can't be stored for a few months without blessing it. I don't get why some bitog members encourage this behavior.

Screw the cap on tight(you don't have to use a pair of channel locks) and forget it. The oil sits around exposed to the atmosphere for its entire useful life so what's the problem?

Look how long you store oil inside your engine and it's gradually getting exposed to all kinds of krud. The oil in the bottle will be okay.

Considering that I had an excellent UOA with oil that I had in my house for 17 years (albeit in closed containers)...I doubt a few months storage (with a closed cap) will have any negative effects....

Heck, I still am using up some 1993 vintage Havoline 5w30 my uncle gave me 2 cases of
