StopTech, Centric, and Raybestos to shut down

Just ran across this, not surprising but still sucks. I always loved Centric premium rotors.

That's really a shame. I've been using Raybestos Element 3 everywhere I can for years. I'll have to watch for sales on them that match my vehicles.

I loved Raybestos for US car brake parts when I had US cars. I thought someone would buy the name during chapter 11. Oh well.

Google shows Autolite, Cardone and Trico also affected. I wonder if it will affect Fram long term.

It is getting uglier by the week if you been following the First brands collapse. Many of their companys will be gone before the dust settles. GM been having meetings this week over supply chain issues with this.

Raybestos/Centric/Stoptech products were cheapened under their watch. For example, cheaper coating on the rotors and drums that didn't last as long

Powerstop coated drums and rotors are much better

A few of those brands are valuable, including Fram. They will also be back in some form.

Centric was my goto pad/rotor combo years ago. Raybestos Element or whatever were good pads until they weren't.
What's a poor boy to do?

Raybestos Advanced Tech rotors were my favorite, until they started showing up with hairline cracks inside of their thick plastic packing bags… had to send a couple back. But good ones were still good. Centric has been very good for me - hate to see them close shop.

StopTech was so so. Improvement over some brake systems (Asian and US vehicles). Big downgrade compared to ATE, Textar, Pagid, Jurid and Brembo.
I used once their track pads. They were absolute junk.

Welcome to the Chinese aftermarket. I know a few of those companies were looking to pick up these brands, but most everyone is waiting for first brands to go under to buy these names cheap to slap them on a cheapie on Amazon to make a few extra bucks.

The Aftermarket in general is dying quick…….

I liked Raybestos but they were never available locally so often I just go with parts store pads and rotors. I never imagined they shut down though.

The parts store brands are sometimes just rebranded Raybestos etc anyways for less.

There are some other related threads on First Brands. The previous CEO is out on bail for fraud. The people handling the bankruptcy of First Brands tried to get financing and/or sell pieces of the business. Ford and GM are helping with financing for some of the brands that supplied them with parts used in their manufacturing of cars. But at the end of the day there was probably not enough financing to keep all the brands going so some had to be liquidated. Does not mean someone will not buy a factory at a fire sale price and restart it.

They had been double or triple pledging assets to get loans. Thats like you going to 3 banks and trying to get 3 mortgages for $500K each on the same $500K house.

How eager do you think financial companies are to provide financing given the history?

Ate, Textar, Jurid, Pagid and Akebono pads, Ate and Zimmerman rotors for the win.

I just put some Raybestos Element pads on my sons Santa Fe (rear pads) last spring. For the front I used Bosch Blue (already had them.) Both running fine.

I hate to see Raybestos go. I imagine someone will grab them.
