At first I thought it was the exhaust side seal on the turbo weeping on lower oil pressure.

I had that happen to my 2005 Forester XT as did others. Mine finally started leaking internally blowing serious amounts of oil out the exhaust. I was crop dusting for a week till it got fixed.

I replaced plugs on the Forester without jacking the motor. I do have small hands and did not use any of the funky u-joints on the sockets. It was a slow process but It got done. The worst part is feeling the new plugs into the hole and threading them in since they go so deep into the head.

I budgeting 3 hours on the weekend for it but squeaked out under that.

On my 2005 Legacy I had to jack up the engine a little to get one coil back on the plug. It's a little tight around the valve covers.

Head gasket leaking coolant onto exhaust. When I worked at the VW/Audi,Subaru, & GM dealership head gaskets seeping coolant was pretty common.

What kind of a stink? Rotten egg? Unburned fuel? Semi burned (sooty/old car-like) stench? You said burning oil, but I've seen that manifest itself many ways, and it can loop back from the tailpipe to the cowl intake!

Before the converter is fully lit off, you can get some nasty partially-burned fuel stenches. If it is rotten egg, its the fuel sulfur level, and it is making H2S instead of SOx.

All these to me point towards a lazy o2 sensor, maybe a slow preheat, etc. even without a cel. That said, I've smelled rotten egg even on brand new cars, but at 147k, conversion efficiency and sensors start to get suspect.

It was fixed. Passenger side valve cover gasket would leak enough oil overnight onto the exhaust and would make a nice smoke show and stench first 10 minutes of drive. This included the preschool drop off line which my wife was embarrassed about.

It was hard to see as it pretty tight on that side of motor due to turbo it plumbing and exhausts in the way.

Was it the Saab, or BMW or the ***** Ford LTD (the episode where they were shopping @ a mall, parked in a parking garage, 'misplaced' their window air conditioner AND couldnt remember where they parked the ugly-[censored] LTD ,Jerry & George got busted for public urination.. LOL

The Saab is the one where they saw how far they could drive it while they were on "E" on the gas gauge.

That was a funny episode, since they just kept driving.. and just when they thought it would never run out, it did. (At the end.)

There was another Saab episode ((with a yellow 900? Show ended in 1997 remember, with them in jail) where the dealer charges a "Fee fee" but was otherwise ready to give the car almost for free, if George did something stupid, or something, and he wouldn't, on principle...
