Of course its not bad. With proper OCI all modern oils pretty much offer the same basic protection. Saying otherwise is just ignorant. Statements like using it in a beater infer that it somehow will not provide even the basic of protection which is just illogical.
Your inference of ST not providing basic protection is just that, yours. My point is, I see little/no 'cost benefit' to using ST, blended/made by various different and/or unknown suppliers, around the country. With known majors like SOPUS and XOM providing QS and MC5k, 'for me' there is no reason to chase the unknown suppliers of ST to save 30 cents or often less, a qt.

That said, for me, using it in beater makes more sense. A beater in my definition would be an oil burner, more so than average, or a vehicle nearing the end of it's useful life. At that point the cheapest/least expensive oil 'that meets spec', even with unknown suppliers, makes more sense, at least 'to me'. Again, until that point, I see little cost benefit with ST over the majors' oil, for my vehicles. For others, saving some cents under any circumstance with ST, may be worth it, just not for me.

I agree with you.

Im a Pennzoil guy all the way but now that PP went up to $23.50 I may just have to switch to Super Tech syn from now on. Not that I dont already use it often but its a lot cheaper for a good oil. $17.50 vs $23.50 for both good oils..... and I like to buy in bulk...

Good job getting 400k with SuperTech!!!

go 400k miles on a vehicle and people still insist i would only use it in a beater. how do you know the st isnt better than Quaker State or any of the other oils mentioned becuase they dont advertise it or have commercials? my point isnt that my van wouldnt have went 400k or more miles on other oils but it did with a oil that you wouild only use in you "beater"

if i had to take a shot in the dark i would say its better than Quaker State. Quaker State is about the worst at sludge build up in my opinion. ask any mechanic, he might agree

Worse than Pennzoil conventional? I put some in my car, removed the valve cover after 3000 miles and their was Jello on top of the engine.
