Well, after the house purchase will be the tire purchase for the Cavalier. You know, that 14 inch tire in which you pretty much only find chinese junk in.... The plan was to upgrade them down the road to 15s or 16s down the road after this go around... Granted, there are a few 14s left worth buying ( Cooper CS4, BFG Touring TAs, Yoko Avid touring S/TRZ), but you do get many others to choose as you size up.... So if you are me-do you stick with the OEM size, or upgrade to a rim/tire package?

Im sure you can get a good looking set of Cav 15" wheels that are an exact fit for cheap. Do it! Aftermarket is typically excessively ugly.

Michelin makes a 185/70x14 and 195/70x14, though I don't know your tire size. It's the Harmony (and variants) line; Discount Tire has them. Good is, you'd have them forever. Problem is, you'd have them forever. wink

14's hard to find? I run 13's on Neon year round now, but I'm on the 6-7 months of summer tires, 5-6 months of winter tire plan. If your not afaid of used tires you can get high performance summer tires for smaller rims off a local motorsports forum. Miati, old VW's, even old BMW's used 14's. I got a set of used sumitomo 205/55R13's off a guy who had them on a Scirocco before he went to even wider tires and they work well on the street and I used them for a couple autocross's too. I think they'll be good for a couple more summers. I guess as well you can probably find a set of 15" or 16" rims with good tires on them as somebody goes for even bigger rims. I don't like how much a 16" factory rim and tire weighs but you'll probably never notice the decrease in performance unless you go to the drag stip.

Gen 4 Camary I4s used 14s until 2001. I upgraded to 15x7 wheels. Made a big difference and as a bonus I was able to fit Avalon brake rotors and calipers on the front.

Or at least the better ones, anyway. Not a fan of the mushy goodyears (integ, comfort tread) either. If I can't go Cooper, BFG or Yokos look like the way to go...

Dave, My 97 Camry has 195-70-14 tires and I consider it one of the best things about the car. I can get Michelin Destiny tires at Discount Tire for $100 or Pirelli P4s for $89. I consider a set Michelin tires for around $500 in today's market to be a great thing.

I just saw 195/70R14 "Eldorago Sport Touring" tires for $88 each. Eldorado is made by Cooper...the tread in the pic I saw looked an awful lot like their Lifeliner Classic II.

Many slightly uplevel cavaliers rolled on 195/65/15. I'd get steelies and OE plastic screw on hubcaps, honestly. There are also lots of 205/55/15 or 205/60/15 that probably won't rub the strut. (but test fit before you commit, please)

I put some BFG's in the 195/70/14 on my GF's Cav last year. Got them at Sams Club and I think it was around $250-300 for all 4.
