Even the well aged sticky weights I came across, they had to be pried off. In fact, after they switched to the steel clip on weights, the sticky ones would hold far better. They would actually make it out of the parking lot, unlike that junk. The clip ons would come off doing the figure eight at literally multiple(!) mph.

I have used nothing but stick on weights on the G6 and G5, summer and winter sets with no issue. We do have salt on the streets, lots of it, freezing temps, -23C yesterday morning and plenty of rain.
I cannot however say this has always been the case as I did have plenty of trouble with them in the early 90s.

The key to stick on weights is a clean surface. There's lots of brake dust and just wiping the surface isn't enough. Some sort of solvent is needed - and even then, you have to be careful not to just spread the dirt around. You have to do a final wipe with the clean part of the rag.
Also, the adhesive can dry out if you use really old weights.

Yes, because the weight is inboard on the wheel compared to clip on. Simple physics says it will take more weight to accomplish the same thing.
Some wheels you can not run clip on, so the only choice is sticky. My summer wheels (2005 Mustang 18" option "Fanblades") are this way on the outside. So they have sticky weights behind the face of the wheel and a clip on on the inside edge. I have not had any problems with them. Those are not the only set Ive had balanced or done the balancing on myself. I honestly have no idea why you had such trouble with them.

Those sond good but for whatever reason seem to be marketed only for motorcycles and HD trucks...
Check their application chart. They list just about every tire size their is and the amount to use in them. The product is good for all applications. They make is sound like for light and HD trucks, but a lot of cars also use 14" and 15" tires. just look at tire size and use accordingly.

It takes off all the road grime, grease,oil etc. Will not hurt paint or clear coat. Rinse well with warm water. BTW, I also remove all of the existing stick on balance weights before I go to the shop so the gorilla working there doesn't scratch the wheel finish removing them. It is also fun to watch the "deer in the headlights" look when they tell me there were no weights on the wheels.
