Stereo Interference Question

I am installing a stereo in my Mack DM690S right now and have a question. I have purchased a Jensen JHD910 Mini radio and a dual 6.5" speaker pod. I would like to hang it from the roof as that's really all the room I have. Link to the pod is below. I want to attach the radio unit to the speaker box which leaves me only having to get switched power and ground to the box, the pigtail on the head unit can tie directly into the speakers in the box. Will there be any interference/buzzing with having the power wiring also in the box with the speakers?

I know automotive wiring very well but the aftermarket stereo realm is not something I mess with much.

I doubt it. The audio frequencies to the speakers shouldn't be affected by other audio frequencies or DC voltages. There is always a possibility of interference from the alternator or other sources, capacitor works for the alternator. Doubt this is even a thing nowadays. Shouldn't be an issue.

Correct. The solution you’ve got is a nice one. I’d stuff some spare fiber glass insulation, poly fill (pillow filling) or even the innards of an old pillow in the speaker pod to smooth the sound out a little. If you get any electrical noise, it won’t be because of how you are doing it. Most radios these days do a pretty good job of rejecting engine/alternator noise.

That description isn't very clear about how the antenna works, but that is what I'd reroute to avoid noise. Its wire should be shielded anyway. If you're out on the road you'd probably want the extra reach of a decent roof antenna.

It looks like that radio uses (and requires) a standard car antenna system with Motorola plug. It's very small and weatherproof, intended for tractors ATVs etc.

The Metra box is quite large-- large enough to mount a DIN sized radio inside-- which would let you use a less expensive radio with more features.

I finally got around to installing the radio and speaker box listed above. I ended up putting it in the floor with the speakers below. Wiring was just basic 18 gauge speaker wire from Oreilly's but I did use the gold plated connectors. I loosely packed the box with a cloth type material that the new chrome exhaust stack came wrapped in and the sound quality is absolutely fantastic. Couldn't be happier with this system.
