Stay away from Low SAP oils?

I been pondering what oil I should use in my 2010 VW GTI 2.0T DI engine. I have a Napa down the street that stocks Lubro Moly oils. I also have a VW parts shop within walking distance of my house. They stock Pentosin and Total oils.

I know I should be looking for a low volatility oil to help fight intake valve deposits. I would love to use Redline 5W-40, but I will stick with a VW 502 during the warranty period. I will be doing all my oil changes myself. Three free oil changes from VW isn't going to change my mind about VW Service. My wallet can handle the expense just find! I will be doing 6 month OCI's. I drive 90% city, 4.2 miles to work.


Here are some of the oils I can find locally.

Lubro Moly Synthoil Preminum 5W-40 Group III

It meets VW 502/505 sepc
MB 229.3
BMW LL-98

Lubro Moly 0W-40 Group IV

It meets VW 502/505 spec
MB 229.3

Pento High Performance II 5W-40 Group III

It meets VW spec 502/505/505.1
MB 229.51

It meets VW spec 502/505

The Pentosin oil meets more current specs, but it's a low SAP oil. Will this oil with it's lower amounts of SAP still be good in a non diesel engine? I think BMW warns about using a LL-04 spec oil in a Petrol engine car?

I know I can go down to Autozone or Walmart and pick up Mobil 1 0W-40 or GC. I tried those in the past with my old VW's. I'm looking to try something new this time.

I think Pento High Performance III is a low sap oil as that meets the VW 507 spec, not the Pento HP II!

I would avoid oils that contain Mg compounds as soot dispersant in a petrol engine as they are the most abrasive of the adds and add more EP surface competition than is necessary in non-diesel applications.

The Pento High Performance II meets BMW LL-04 and MB 229.51 specs. These are low SAP specs.

Pennzoil Platinum VX Diesel 5w30 meets 504/507 which is backward compatible.

How about an OC special at PepBoys w/Mobil 1 ESP 5w30?

I don't see how dry intake valves are affected by sump oil volitility.

Did you even read my post? I didn't say I wanted to use a 507 spec oil in my GTI. I was asking if they're any ill effects of using a low SAP oil in a non diesel engine.

A lower volatility oil will help Blow-by in a direct injection engine.

I can't give you a good reason why other than reputation of the brand, but out of the oils you listed and especially since it is within walking distance, I would give the Total a try.

Lubro Moly Synthoil Energy 0W-40 is also Porsche-approved by the way. That would be my recommendation.
