I'm hearing startup noises again. I used to get them with 10w30 oil, but after going to 5w30 they seemed to stop, or get less. I was even thinking of adding Lucas Oil Stabilizer or Duralube, but kind of changed my mind.

I now run Pennzoil 5w30 conventional. I'm wondering if this will improve if I go back to Pennzoil Platinum 5w30. I also have some Rotella T6 5w40 that I may run.

If my head gasket begins to leak again, I could use the extra protection that synthetic oil offers, which is another reason why I was going to use Lucuas or Duralube.

Any advice?

I may have been told this before here at BITOG.

Thanks for all the replies. :)

I'm keeping a close eye on my coolant reservoir level. If the HG fails again due to Thermagasket failure, I'm going to get it fixed the right way, via a mechanic.

Not a Sentra...but a Frontier...it didn't 'like' 5-30 and rattled on start up, put in Mobil 1 0w30 and the noise is gone.

I have an 05 Sentra 1.8 and I use GC 0w30 with a Bosch 3323 oil filter. The only noise i hear is the ticking of the fuel injectors, at least thats what i think it is. Im assuming the thicker oil may have something to do with it? I say give the Rotella T6 and see what happens.
