Started a healthy diet, when do I start to feel better?

I'm not an apple snob😁
I also live smack dab in the middle of the city so no clean pork farms or apple orchards across the road unfortunately 😔

What do you guys eat to get your required protein? Back when I was exercising heavily, I bought protein powder, but more natural would likely be better.
Depends on your goals. This is pretty much what I/I've use(d) for supplemental support for years with great success. Isogold X2 scoops post workout with nut milk, the Sport Whey is slower burning so that's the bedtime nosh. PVL is a very well respected brand but perhaps frowned upon by people who tout the designer hippie ones infused with cramp bark, couch grass, and dehydrated wolverine testicles lol.

I get a ~90-100g protein infusion from those shakes combined that's highly bioavailable when used in conjunction with resistance training. I take the BCAA's at work or on lower protein, non-training days simply as anticatabolic support.

Creatine works well for me so it's always on hand, the vitamins again just to supplement where I feel I might be lacking. I still make the 3 whole food meals I eat the foundation, the supplements just augment the rest of the diet and allows me to get what I need consuming fewer total calories.

Not for everyone of course but works for an active ecto-meso like me.
Good luck with your journey 😎👍💪🧠

I've been following this thread. I'm no nutrition dummy, but there is always something to learn.

I recently had a health issue, which scared me straight. I'm going to revamp the diet and start exercising again. I used to be a bicycle nut, riding 100+ miles a week. Now, I'm 70 lb overweight.

For starters, I've been eating once per day. Focusing on salads and protein. Quit drinking alcohol, beer (sob). Once I drop some weight, I'll change things up some. I'm actually quite excited about this. One of my fails is that I go through waves of caring, or not. Back when I was riding so much, I could eat anything I wanted and never gain weight. Always ate lots of salads. Quality meat. Back problems led me to reduce riding, but I still ate the same. Anyway, it's good to focus on health...

Is your doc focused on your correct numbers?

Fully Loaded question!

Why do I say that?? hahahhaha

Does doc even know you?
Does doc know the correct numbers to look at in general?
Does doc know the correct numbers to look at for YOU?
Do YOU know YOUR correct numbers, after scanning the spectrum with actual tests?
Do you know what works for you and against you?
And MORE!?!?! (like external things, symptoms, "feeling", general stamina, fitness, etc???)

I'm not trying to come across as some kind of ex-spurt! I mean WOW I never knew my native UN-augmented Vitamin D level until 3 days ago and I was VERY LOW! (i am an idiot alert!!).

All this is very personal frankly and no need to post actual numbers. But in the new age of taking control of our own fitness and health, I think very important questions that I feel I need to share like a geezer.

Our diet isn't terrible but it isn't the best, too much flour and sugar, more prepared food like deli ham and pepperoni and breakfast cereals than should be etc. Over a month ago I resolved to clean up my diet, absolute minimum of flour based foods, no prepared things like lunch meats, soup, no snacks, etc. Only limited amount of whole wheat bread more vegetables and fresh fruit, more protein, only drink water and 1 cup of coffee a day. No desserts. Trying to follow the new official nutrition guidelines.

After a month, other than losing some weight I really didn't need to lose I don't feel any different, better or worse. Might feel a bit more tired late in the day than usual. No more energy. You read about people feeling so much better after improving what they eat but I'm not getting it. Maybe my cholesterol numbers are better but no way to know. Might as well go back to being happy with what I'm eating?!
From experience, I know that your body will scream bloody murder for well north of a month when you switch to more fruits and veggies (substantially more). Those actually make the body work to digest them, as opposed to processed stuff, and the body lets you know.

You could also be in for a calorie deficit. Many leafy veggies output less calories than what the body spends on digesting them. They bring you nutrients of course, which is great.

But the part about losing weight that you didn't need to lose makes me think you went in hard. For really fat people like me myself and I, any diet we try actually makes us put on more weight the first month. This is the most difficult part, and why so many people give up.

The body fights it, it perceives the deficit as a hunger crisis, and starts stacking every once of anything you put in your mouth - liquids, everything. Add the gasses from that new leafy and healthy stuff, and here you are starving and your pants fit even less.
It takes more than a month for the body to call it a day and switch to burn mode. At least that's how it works with me.

But once again - this is for people who are really overweight. Sounds to me you are not.

I'm not as dialed in as you are. What I know is that I have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and a liver enzyme imbalance. Shedding some pounds and stopping with the beer will go a long way. Meeting with the doc next week, so we can discuss/confirm a reasonable plan.

Sounds like a good plan

I never in a million years doubted doctors. I never in a million years thought I knew more than my doctor. And you KNOW I don't.

But I know me (now). They just can't at my salary rank. And so on it goes. Call it dialed in(?) I dunno............I've lost 45 pounds now. I actually have some ab muscles. My physical stamina seems great. I have some loose skin and some internal fat. And again, on it goes.

But I don't know what my CAC, Ox, inflammation, etc numbers are. I'm starting to not really want to know, as long as I feel good and not go in reverse - see feels are important and not stressing, but balanced emphasis.

I was and am eating once a day, mostly. But I have given myself some slack for a breakfast or a dinner. I even had a very rich dessert the other day.

I know what focus should be.

I'm boiling up a leftover turkey carcass today. Tomorrow, turkey soup! Heavily loaded up with veggies and a few mini potatoes. I used to joke about going on a "chicken soup diet", but now, I'm really going to do it!

You, Sir, are a good man. I had traumatic experiences with chicken in kindergarden and it's been an on and off culinary relationship ever since.

I usually start noticing more energy and better mood after 4‑6 weeks, with bigger changes showing up around 2‑3 months.

When I went Keto, I was miserable for 2 weeks. Serious carb withdrawals and probably some dehydration. Started to feel better after that. It takes 6-8 weeks for most people to get into full ketosis if they are following a serious keto diet.

On a true high fat, low carb diet, the mental clarity is incredible. Hard to get enough protein on this type of diet, though.

Honestly, I didn’t notice a big shift until about three to four weeks, and the biggest jump came after the first month when my gut settled and energy steadied. Stick with balanced meals, keep hydrated, and get enough sleep. I also switched to a service with great food quality, which helped me stay on track without hassle.

Most doctors are just indoctrinated memorizers who will follow the establishment frauds in order not to loose their medical license. Carb and seed oil consumption are making everyone on Earth fat, stupid, and sick.

The new Hyppocratic Oath: A patient cured is a customer lost.
For knowing several doctors, I call BS on that. Music to ears sounding meme level garbage.
