Lately but intermittently I have been hearing noisy start ups on our Hyundai. Today it was especially bad when I used remote start. The engine idled for about a minute with no improvement just the chucka-chucka-chucka. I put it in gear, backed out of the driveway and it didn't stop the noise. I parked it back in the garage and let it sit for a flew seconds. Put the key in, started it up again, purred like a kitten. Why would this be? Did the computer not actuate the oil pump the first time? I didn't see a low oil pressure light or anything... Is this something to worry about? Oil has 3500 miles on it, filter was changed recently.

Does the car sit for extended periods without being driven? Also, what kind of ADBV does that PureOne have?

Are you certain it was internal engine noise? Sometimes the injectors can be a little noisy, especially if it's DI. I suppose the lifters could have bled down somewhat, but I'm not sure if that is a problem on those cars.

If you havent already, throw a bottle of Techron in the gas tank. Next oil changed I would use QSUD and a OEM Hyundai filter, see if the noise changes.

It sat all night until this after noon, so about 16 hours. And it has a silicone adbv

Our Hyundai has been sitting since January 1st right before the Polar Vortex. I wonder if it will do the same thing?

I have read these things are pretty picky about oil filters and that they really don't like anything but factory. I gave WIX a try and it sounded just like before.. It never really was quiet on start up though. It always has a high pitched whine for a second or two. I think it helps the filter is on the bottom and hangs vertically.

my 2012 Hyundai veloster has a di engine and I never had a problem with start up noise no matter what oil filter ive used. Ive used pure1 and kn and mobil 1 and fram ultras. and oem Hyundai filters. So don't believe the [censored] Hyundai tells ya about using there garbage filters.

Could be a spec of dirt in a lifter or lack of oil pressure inside the hydraulic lifter. Other issue could be a faulty anti-drain back valve in the oil filter.

Have you seen any of them cut open? Hyundai OEM filters are hardly garbage.

We use Royal Purple oil filters at our shop....a little pricey but most of our customers want them installed due to the quality anti-drain back valves as stated by our customers.

Sometimes a filter can do funny things.
No matter, changing the filter could rule out if there is a filter problem.
Also, Hyundai has a TSB regards to aftermarket filters about noisy start up. Not saying aftermarket filters will cause a noisy start up as many have had no problems using non-Hyundai filters.
A OEM Hyundai filter, once in awhile a bad one could get down the line and out in someones hands.
Anyway, changing the filter is a cheap start to rule out the current filter, using another of the same, OEM, or another aftermarket. Just saying that's where I'd start, and add a little make-up oil from what the old filter takes out. Me, I'll fill the filter also if it mounts base up, but not everyone does, just my preference.

+1
I've used the PL14459 on a 2008 Elantra with no issues. But I'd still start by swapping it out.

Ive used the oem Hyundai filters and they do seem to be a heavy filter. But someone on hear a few weeks ago posted there specs and it wasn't the greatest. Compared to some aftermarket top of the line filters they didn't even come close. So that's why I said they are garbage.

Oh, I see. Well may Japanese OEM filters are the same, Toyota is around 50% at 20 microns and Honda around 66%. Yet those engines run for may hundreds of thousands of miles.

I feel bad for using a p1 for 100 miles and then ditching it. But oh we'll. the wix filter never gave me noise
And I've used p1s in the past with no noise.

So your oil had 3500 miles on it and the P1 filter had only 100 miles on it? What kind of OCI are you using for the Hyundai?
