In a pinch for an oil filter for my vq35. I found a ST6607 (non ecore).

I have heard that ST's are decent filters, but how are the antidrain back valves? My VQ is prone to timing chain rattle at start, so far the PureOne i am using served well.

If it helps, the one I bought has a black one.

It seems fine to me. Try it. It should fair well with the purolater. The ST is like STP, the old Bosch, AC Delco filters. Champ Labs. They are good filters for the money.

Well no.... a ST 3614 wouldn't be a good choice as it uses 3/4-16 threads. The ST 7317 and ST 6607 use 20 x 1.5mm.

You should be using the ST 7317

Why this over the recommended? Longer?

It's the same size as the OEM 9E000 filter that probably came on your car. My '06 Sentra 1.8L came with the bigger 9E000 filter stock, but all the books at the auto parts stores say to use the smaller 6607? I always run the bigger 9E000 size. It probably only holds about 4 to 6 oz more oil, but has a bigger filter media area.

Just my $0.02

If you run 6607, you shall be able to retrofit with 3593.

I used to run 3593 on my Mazda B6 block, which officially calls for 6607 and so I know the thread holes.

I agree with quest, the 3593 filter is a much better choice than the 6607 or the 7317. The 6607 is just TINY, and the 7317 has a cheap looking plastic button for a bypass (like fram).

The 6607 is the recommended filter for my Hyundai also, but it is MUCH smaller than the OEM, which is about 3593 size. The best built filters I have cut open so far for that application is the Wix 51334 and the Hyundai OEM, both run around the $5-$6 range. The Hyundai OEM is the only one that has NEVER given me startup noise, even on very cold mornings when the car hasn't run for 2 weeks. I've tried just about everything else. It would fit on your vq35.
