Analysis by Oil Analyzers.
No fuel additives and both UOA's are on the same fill.
The initial 3.5 qt fill had one quart added at about 3,000 and another at about 6,000 miles. So two quarts of top off oil on the same 8,400 mile fill.
I don't know why there is no TBN for the VOA, but they list a TAN of 2.66? Bad day at the lab?
I should not have waited to send both UOA's together, because they flagged the TBN as below the acceptable minimum both times.

Purolator air filter.
EaO20 oil filter.
About 90% highway driven...

Forgot to add that Shell V-Power fuel was used (it pings on anything less) and yes the ignition timing is right. The recommended OCI was 7,500 miles with 5W-30 when new.

The only other UOA that I've had done on this engine was with RLI 0W-20 at about 192,500 miles. The TBN dropped from a VOA of 6 to 2.7 in 2,500 miles during that run...

I think i'd be pretty happy with those wear numbers on a car with so many miles and a 3.5 qt sump.

Nice!!

Looks pretty good but the tbn seems low with all that make up oil, highway driving, and 1.6 liter motor.

Good points, I'm sure the small sump and high mileage (combustion blow-by) have a large role in the fast TBN drop. Oxidation appears to be in check, but nitration is trending up compared to the VOA. I honestly thought the make-up oil would boost the TBN more...

The advertised SSO TBN is 13.2, so now that I look at the results again it is easier to use the VOA TAN and UOA TBN approaching (and exceeding) each other as the oils condemnation point.

Makes me wonder how high the UOA TAN was though... Oh well, I guess the old Civc is not a good candidate for extended OCI's!

Gas in the oil knocked the TBN down in my 1993 Civic rather quickly. Now that I have that problem solved, the TBN has shown to stay higher. Did you have gas in your oil?

It probably is fuel or blowby munching your TBN so quickly.

Am I missing something? Is this not a stock 1.6 Civic, making a little more torque than a B&S engine? How can it ping on anything less than 93 V-Power. That could be making you run rich. Maybe you need to run some Seafoam into your intake.
