squeeling noise from valves at cold start ups

Last night I replaced the Toyota oil filter with a Wix and this morning had the hood opened and had my wife start the truck while I listened for noise. still hear the ligth chirping, high pitch whistling, but not as much as before and then again someting kicked off and the noise went away after 15 to 20 seconds. This morning wasn't as cold as previous days when I experienced this noise, that could explain it not beeing as noticeable as before. I am thinking now that what is happening is that the authomatic chocke is on when you first cranck it in the cold morning and then after 15-20 seconds goes out and sound goes away. the chocke being open may be causing the valve noise to be more noticeable until it goes off.

What do you guys think? Any way, I don't think there is anything wrong with this truck. It is just since it is new, I am getting to know it a little bit better. I also need to tell you a little bit about myself. I notice the smallest things even when most people would not even notice it. the noises I am describing is not as loud as some of you think it is. you wouldn't even hear it unless you were standing in fron of the hood and listening carefully.

Are you talking about an automatic choke, like on a carb? Isn't this a 2008 Tacoma? There is no choke.

Then how did you hear it in the first place? Do you stand in front of your truck when you start it? lol

Seriously, I drove several diff Tacomas with this engine before I found the one I bought, and I never once heard any kind of squeal on startup. But since a few others have also mentioned it, it must not be uncommon.

I would be interested to see if the noise would go away if you changed the oil to 0W-20.

Again, I'll remind you what you said in your first post, "After the last oil change"....

Its a new truck, if it calls for 5W20 oil, make sure there is 5W20 oil in it, and its filled to the proper level. Then bring it back to the dealer, and have them let it sit over night and start it up cold in the morning. Or better yet, drop it off the night before and if possible meet them in the morning for the cold start. Let them diagnose it. It could nothing at all, or something they will have to address. I always found when dealing with something like this it is best to be with the tech at the time the problem is happening..............GOOD LUCK!

Given the cost and supposed superiority of the make, you should not be getting ANY noise, no matter what.

Lexus is number 1 and Toyota is still number 4 on JD Power dependability ratings.

Since Volkswagen is 33rd, you should have your own parking spot at the VW dealer's service center.

Especially since they're known to be pieces of [censored] in many people's eyes.

I'm guessing the gentlemen that started this thread DID buy a Toyota knowing it's going to have long term reliability like Toyota has a record of (statistically overall - we can cite specific instances of lackluster quality for any make/model), because it will.

Well I since after changing the oil filter nothing changed. I changed the oil this time. drained the 5W-30 Synpower and put in 5W-20 Penzoil Platinum. the start up noise I was concerned about is much less than before. still hear the valves chippering, and something kicking off after 15 to 20 seconds, I believe that is some authomatic feature that senses colder temperatures and revs up the engine faster at start up along with maybe other things to warm up the engine faster, then it kicks off and the engine revs down and becomes quieter. I think 5W-30 oil which is heavier than what it calls for (5W-20), made it lauder during this process.
