This might be a dumb question, but are the square body instrument panel, just a simple plug and play to exchange the old one for a different one. I have the original panel. in the truck, but it’s rusty and missing all the dials. If I were to swap it for the same year panel, just more cleaner. Would it just work.

There’s one at work where the instrument panel has been replaced with a sheet of 5/8 plywood, painted black. There’s an autometer speedo, tach, fuel and temp gauge, 2 push-pull switches and I presume provisions for oil and blinker lamps. It fits their build well. I like it. You can’t fit a plywood dash in many vehicles anymore.

Very simple job. Just remove the entire dash from a donor vehicle and everything plugs in from the back.
The instrument panel is fastened to the back with little tin nuts that take a 5/16 socket.
