Saw a late production run SAAB the other day. Thing has a "Y" pipe. They gotta be wringing their hands in Trollhatten. I knew the end was near when Generous Motors started putting SAAB stickers on SUVS. "WE let the SAAB guys choose the shocks" they said.

They kept a money losing proposition called Saab afloat for almost two decades after it should have been liquidated.

It's not Saab that got screwed in that deal.

GM is probably wishing they (GM) had gone belly up at this point.American taxpayers probably wish they had,as they have yet to pay off their huge TARP loans.
Chrysler borrows money the old fashioned way....they pay it back! (Lee Iacocca,1983).

GM wants you to THINK they are the "world's greatest car company" and deseved all that bailout money. They didn't do such a great job of keeping themselves afloat. If their executive department was so highly skilled, why did they BUY SAAB and why didn't they TURN IT AROUND? Nice job passing the buck, though.

Exactly. Why didnt the Swedish gov bail them out before GM was stupid enough to buy them. Or for that matter write a check to save them?

Another small mark that couldnt compete and will not be missed by most.

I know this board is big time against government intervention but the government should have never allowed all the acquisitions that GM & Ford made in the 90's creating companies that were too large to fail and wiping out competition at the same time.
