Coverage is locale specific. Ask friends/family/coworkers/acquaintences they will let you know.

Sprint is absolute garbage in my state NH. Verizon is the only provider that works okay and they even have dead spots especially near coast because NIMBY's don't allow towers to go up near beach.....

Have you looked at the new Google Fi service? It is $20/mo plus $10/gb for whatever you use. They also utilize wifi, sprint and t-mobile for the service. Only available with a Nexus 6 though.

I have had verizon for 15 years and have no complaints.

I would look at the coverage maps at http://opensignal.com/ and http://www.sensorly.com/

On Sprint: most of the comments oin the inferior coverage are correct. But.. things change rapidly in that domain. Sprints new owner, a Japanese banker declared "we have nothing to lose" strategy and throws piles of money for upgrades. So, if the coverage in your areas of interest is fine and incentives are good enough you might consider Sprint.

Another interesting Sprint + WiFi combo is Republic Wireless - from $10 to $25 per month.

H2O Wireless uses AT&T network and charges $27 per month for unlimited voice/text, limited data, limited credit ($5) for international calls with good rates.
