I paid over the internet with a credit card once I got home.
He doesn’t even live close to NM, so clearly there’s a bit of bias in the hogwash. NM is a beautiful state with lots to offer, especially to retirees.

The property tax cut you referenced has already been nullified by my city council by raising even more taxes. Have a search for that one. SE Texas is well known for improper search and seizures, going 9 over is all the excuse they needed. You have alot more to worry about than faux news boogeyman “illegals” moving in next door.

There's no official buffer here, although I think all fixed and mobile speed cameras operate at around 10% plus 2-4mph depending on the local enforcement. A police officer can pull you over and issue you a ticket for 1mph though.
Most of our motorways have regular fixed speed cameras and where they don't, mobile speed cameras enforce randomly.
Up to 23mph above the speed limit you can expect 3 points on your driving licence and a £100 fine. Sometimes, if you're only just speeding then you get offered a 'speed awareness course' instead of the points where you go sit in a room with other criminals and learn about how dangerous speeding is for 5 hours. I think you're eligible for 1 speed awareness course every 3 years.
Anything over 23mph you go to court where the risk of larger quantities of points, big fines or even a driving ban is an absolute reality. Certainly 30mph+ over the limit will land you with a definite driving ban.
Points last for 3 years on your driving licence, if you accumulate more than 12 points then you're off to court to find out how long you're going to be banned for.
The only good thing about the UK is the punishment for speeding is generally quite similar throughout the UK. Where as in the US it sounds like you have to factor in what state you're in, what mood the cop is in etc etc.
I echo what some other have said though, speed limits are just too slow. Our motorways here in Wales are mainly 50mph and enforced with average speed cameras that time you from when you enter to when you leave, so there's no point in even trying to speed. Get into England and the motorways are 70mph but there are regular fixed cameras on all the main motorways. Modern cars are more than capable of going well in excess of this safely.

Call it a win.Got pulled over in Tucumcari, New Mexico (I-40) this morning around 6am for doing 84 in a 75, Officer said if I plead guilty it's a $25 fine. Caught me off guard as 1. I haven't been pulled over in 30+ years, And 2. Never heard of a officer making plea deals on the side of the road.
I plead guilty & paid the fine just now online.
Thought being pulled over on a empty highway in the middle of the desert for doing 9 over was a little extreme. But I didn't voice my opinion

Great to see a cut in Texas taxes, but NM still not bankrupt, and in spite of the sanctuary stuff…still no migrant crisis. “Planing” to get away from oil is a statement to appeal to some folks. Kamala plans on “reparations”. Trump “plans” to fly millions of immigrants out of the country. There’s a lot of plans on both sides that we both know are never going to happen.
Wasn't my intent to come off as complaining, I just never heard of making a plea & handing down fines on the side of the road.
I saw far more law enforcement presence on US 287 between Amarillo, TX & Wichita Falls, TX than I did on I40 between Kingman, AZ & Amarillo, TX.
I was doing between 84 & 87mph on US 287 on the 75mph stretches & stayed within 5mph of the limit through the many towns.
The most crazy I saw was in California 89/44/395....Way to many illegal/dangerous passing maneuvers. Las Vegas is pretty bad....I thought Houston was crazy until I drove through Vegas.
No offense, but some of you guys saying "just drive the speed limit and not 1 over" would be a road hazard where I'm at in the Northeast. NYC area, Boston area, it's a daily occurrence for the highways to be 55 but the average flow of traffic is 75-85. You can be doing 90 and have people keeping up with you or passing you.
Doing 55 as the sign said will cause an accident as you are impeding the flow of traffic. Maybe that flies in middle of nowhere Midwestern or Southern small town but not in my area.

Years ago some students from Georgia State University got on the outer loop in Atlanta and drove the speed limit side by side. They pretty much shut traffic in the city down. Since then Atlanta has implemented higher speed limits that change based on conditions (the correct way to do it).
The sad reality is that in most major metro's and even busy interstates, if people drove the speed limit traffic would be at a standstill much of the time. I have never seen speed enforced on I-26 between Charleston and Columbia. Its heavily trafficked by trucks out of two major East Coast ports and tons of tourists. I presume they have been directed to let it flow as fast as it can.

Yeah it's done in some states. Might have been a while ago, but I read about $5 speeding tickets paid on the spot in Nevada.

Well that means that 99% of you are speeding. If you increased the limit to 100, people would complain about 110.
And if there was an accident, whereas the person going 55 was hit by the guy going 85, better believe the guy going 85 is at fault.

I found one article on it. This was back when there was the 55 MPH national speed limit. It doesn't sound like Nevada was in agreement other than they didn't want to give up federal highway funding.

I believe that. I know before the 55 limit was put into law, you could drive just about any speed on the open highways in Nevada without being ticketed, as long as you weren't passing through a town. Now they will write you if you are 10 over. I, ahem, have verified that 9 you're fine, 10 you're mine is true for Nevada now. On multiple occasions.

Try doing the 55mph limit on 80/94 in Indiana near the Illinois border. You will be pulled over by cops at best for impeding traffic, quite literally killed at worst.
“A person may not drive a motor vehicle at a slow speed that impedes or blocks the normal and reasonable movement of traffic, except when reduced speed is necessary for safe operation or in compliance with the law. A person who is driving at a slow speed so that three (3) or more other vehicles are blocked and cannot pass on the left around the vehicle shall give right-of-way to the other vehicles by pulling off to the right of the right lane at the earliest reasonable opportunity and allowing the blocked vehicles to pass.”
