Spark Plugs for 2010 Buick Lucerne 3.9

I own a 2010 Buick Lucern 3.9. Recently had it tuned up and the owners manual specs iridium but he installed double platinum and said that's what the old plugs were. So my question is whether or not he should have put the iridium in? Since I've owned the car I run premium gas to prevent engine knock and after the mew plugs were installed I tried 87 octane again and it still knocks so I'm back on the 93 again. Any idea of iridium would prevent the knocking?

Iridium won't prevent the knocking. The main difference is that iridium lasts much longer. Also, the ACDelco iridium only costs $1 more than platinum. While they're not on rebate now, they do go on rebate a lot, and that makes them an unbeatable deal. The iridiums are made by NGK or Denso but cost less than the same plugs in the NGK or Denso box.

Maybe the knock sensor is bad? Does the CEL ever come on?

Sorry if this is a dumb question...what is the CEL?

No...I've never had a check engine light on. Never once. Or not yet anyway.

You will be fine with the Double Platinums. I personally would have installed what was spec'd and not "what was in there" but that is just me and in the case of spark plugs with that motor it really doesn't matter as you still have a long life plug. The other symptoms are not related to your plugs.

I wonder if the mechanic installed double platinum as the iridiums (from AC D anyway) seem to be harder to find...I had looked a week back or so for what were listed as OEM iridiums from ACD for my 2005 GMC Yukon Denali and RockAuto.com showed double platinums instead of iridium for availability...

for my application, iridiums were listed in the owner's manual as OEM but RockAuto.Com and other sources (even ACD themselves) list the Double Platinums as "OEM" currently (unintended pun  )

...or maybe this is more supply issues...

edited to add: I just checked and still no iridiums for me but I see them listed for your Lucerne 3.9 ACD 41-100 iridium
