Have a 2001 silverado with the 5.3v8 at 70,000 miles, want to change the plugs on it. What would be a good alternative to the stock plugs in it? I'm just curious what others use.
Thanks

There's not much difference in the world of basic platinum plugs. Bosch has a rebate right now so I'd just go for that.

maybe NGK built to OEM spec but nothing beats OEM plugs. I have replaced way to many plugs because of non oem that set CEL lights and misfires. The OEM plugs went 70k and would likely go another 30k. Why risk it on non OEM. Delco in GM, Motorcraft in ford, and Mopar in Dodge. It's a sure winner everytime

I have a 99 Sierra with the 5.3L V8 and I replaced mine this past winter with AC Delco iridium plugs. I've been happy with them. No problems

I also replaced the wire set at the same time.

I bought everything at advance auto parts using coupon codes online.

I used to feel that way until I bought some Bosch double plats for my mother's car because they were nearly free after rebate. They ate themselves in 1,000 miles causing misfire under hard acceleration at the end of that 1,000 miles. I made sure they were properly gapped, they were properly installed and the wires/coil pack are both new. Haven't had any issues before then, or since then, with spark plugs. They had the obvious signs of overheating but are within the heat range for the vehicle; I still don't really understand what went wrong.

Original is almost always best .
There are no secret plugs that will outperform excellent stock ones.
Avoid Bosch unless it came with them.

Could you please explain that statement.

Thank you.

AC plugs are excellent quality. Put some AC Iridium plugs in and you are good for another 100K.

Just for your info, NGK makes the Iridium plugs for ACDelco and Delphi makes the ignition
wires for ACDelco. My factory ignition wires had both ACDelco and Delphi printed on them.

What is there to explain?
Saying that you should avoid Bosch "spark plugs" unless it came with them is more detailed, though.

Most pros and mechanics avoid Bosch plugs in non stock applications. This is known by experience.

This is what I've heard as well. I'd say go with the AC Delco's or NGK.

And generally you shouldn't gap iridium or platinum plugs. Check for a warning label first. Apparently you can scrape off the iridium or platinum coating leading to a very short life.

My shop will not install any plug but OEM. NGK may or may not have been the oem manufacture for Acdelco in 1999 either.I actually believe champion whas the maker in 99. I do agree NGK make the best aftermarket plug on the market but your likely going to pay more then what OEM delco is anyway for them.

I believe your wanting delco 41-110. All 8 only cost about 40 bux and are iridium.
