I recently ordered spark plugs... I got some APP104 Autolites from Nappa.

However, I open the top part of my engine and see APP5263.

See the size difference?

It looks like the APP104s work for the old 2.2L engine in the 2001 Sunfire.

I can't use them in my sunfire, right? Now that I anti-seized the new spark plug, they won't take it back I assume...

Think about it: That short reach plug won't even end up in the combustion chamber - it will still be in the thread well when fully tightend.

Check the gap on the old one; I bet it's still fine, but since you're messing with them, why not just go to the parts store and get a fresh set of quality, correct plugs. That's what I'd do. Plus, it's Saturday - monkey wit da car day!

do not use the short plug.

You need the long reach same as your old ones.

Your valve covers may even list the fact that you need long reach plugs. I know my toyyota does.

Or, the long ones are too long. Too long probably would hit the piston, but maybe not.
I mention this because right at the length of the shorter one, the long plug shows wear on the extended threads from being unscrewed. As if those threads were hanging in the breeze in the combustion chamber.
This is not 100% ascertainable from a picture, but check it out.
Also, you have enough anti seize for 4 plugs on the threads of the new plug.

What year and engine in your sunfire? And correct, you can't interchange the plugs. As mentioned, one will be either too short and shrouded in the plug hole (if there are even threads at the top of the hole) or too long and potentially hit the piston.

While you're getting the correct plug, dump those Autolites and get AC/Delco. And NO BOSCH either!

I know that NGK was the sub-contractor for the original Delco Iridiums (which Delco now claims are made in house, here

).
I don't know about the standard copper type Delcos though.

get oem plugs. bosch platinums made my check in light go off immediately with an erratic idle in my 96 sunfire.

Yes, get Bosch or NGK if offered. I'd do some research to make sure you get the right ones. Make sure the old ones weren't of the wrong size.

APP5623 is the correct plug for the GM 2.2L Ecotec.

If the Autolite Double Platinums do not work well for this application, it would have showed up after 47,000 miles.

The plugs should be good for at least 60k.

Thanks for the help all.

Yes, it is a 2004 Sunfire (2.2L Ecotec DOHC).

No one around my area has the NGK plugs - they only carry Bosch or Autolite.

The spark plugs in my engine look pretty bad - there is white blistering on the L element (whatever you call that) and the center metal piece is worn down it seems compared to the new plug.

My MPG has been going down big time recently... to the point where I'm hitting -4MPG than average and it is going down. I'm thinking its the spark plugs slowly getting worse? I used to get 36MPG average now I'm hitting 31MPG average this last week.

Try the NGK Double Platinum plugs. NGK works very well in every application. Part number is 2467, $7.99/plug. I checked and your local Kragen has them in stock:

It is unlikely to be the plugs. The winter fuel mix can do exactly what you have stated.
