So far have tried sams club, wegmans, and walmart. Thinking that they will sell them faster then the mom and pop shops I thought it would be a safer bet. They all taste like they come from the same bulk supplier, and all taste like tree bark and rancid oil. Every now and then in the bag there will be a few that do taste fresh and mild.

Does anyone have a trusted source that has decent walnuts? I dont mind buying in bulk and vacuum sealing and putting in freezer.

Never a sure thing, but Costco moves a lot of them. So in two+ years here, we only had one bad lot from Costco.*

Agree with your post for sure.

EDIT: *OTOH our Costco SUCKS for greens and salad items from their veggie cooler. Old lettuce and such, romaine hearts with brown up the stem. Yuck.

No problems with Trader Joe's walnuts over several years. Kroger's "Simple Truth" has been OK in a pinch, but costs more than Trader Joe's.

Try Amazon! I just got 4 lbs of Filberts from "Wegotnuts", ordered through Amazon, at my door for $20.00.
They are fresh and of good size. Not exactly cheap, but try to find them.

I bought some Brazil nuts from them. Seemed OK, great trail snack.

Bought some Macadamia nuts from another seller...........the nuts were fine, but I found out I have a bizarre allergy to them, like an alien is trying to eat his way out of my chest using 4000°K Tungsten teef. After reading, I guess the damage can be permanent.

Costco is MOSTLY ok but get a rancid nut here + there!! refrigerate ASAP + freezing controls rancidity.

There are two chain stores in our area that I know that sell walnuts by the pound from a bulk canister, Sprouts and Bulk Nation. Try before you buy. And freeze them after you get them home.

it will never stay long good.
have a walnut tree
I used to have seven Black Walnut trees. Have ever tried to shell those bastards? It's called Mission Impossible! In about four years I managed to shell just enough to make one walnut cake.
