In case, or external audio card?
Looking for a way to play music off my computer to an older receiver with rca or optical input. I might try to record basic music from a mic with Audacity, or maybe some other software at some point as well. I might be getting another computer in about six months that might be better than this one for for what I want to do?

Thanks in advance

Yeah, should be able to find a adapter to convert the headphone jack type output of the onboard sound to RCA. I have at least half a dozen of the things.

Try that 3.5mm to RCA cable first with your build in audio. If they do not have good sound quality (i.e. poor components), you can always get a used PCI sound blaster Live (or whatever sound blaster card that has good reputation).
