It's pretty amazing what can be achieved with a 4" driver and a properly selected crossover and enclosure these days.
I currently use these Dayton bookshelf speakers as my L/R mains:

Here is the listing for the driver itself:

Certainly, you won't be able to amplify the whole neighborhood with them, but at average listening volumes in a small to medium sized room, their bass extension is quite impressive considering their size (and price). Sure, you'll still need a subwoofer, but for home theater you'd need one anyway. I have them crossed over at 90 Hz to the sub.
Here is another, more upscale version:

Just keep in mind, they are 4 Ohm and low sensitivity, so make sure your amp can handle it.
Ah, the darlings of early the youtuber Zreviews.
Funny thing about cheap speakers if you throw enough differing parts at something long enough you may
accidentally make a good sounding unit.
A Lot of the Small RS wood cabinet speakers were very listenable. I think there was a Real Talent behind many of those though. Very Henry Kloss - "ish" but likely not. Kloss inspired more likely.
I will have to research. I've piqued my own curiosity on this subject.
