Funny you would mention butyl - every time I've read ARCOgraphite over the years I've thought "Atlas bucron"

Are your Carl Marchisotto speakers open driver?

NO Studio Big box like Ar3a

I havent looked but the midrange ( only thing that matters comparing to a DQ20 )

It may be open to the rear but I doubt it. I AM guessing the ancient LARGE ADVENT woofers used need re-foaming so I am afraid to look

If you need it You can have it pretty cheap, just PM me.

I cant do anything with one unit. The P/N is different as its a loose part.

It's pretty amazing what can be achieved with a 4" driver and a properly selected crossover and enclosure these days.

I currently use these Dayton bookshelf speakers as my L/R mains:
https://www.parts-express.com/dayton-audio-mk402x-4-2-way-bookshelf-speaker-pair--300-465

Here is the listing for the driver itself:
https://www.parts-express.com/dayto...paper-cone-midbass-woofer-4-ohm--295-415

Certainly, you won't be able to amplify the whole neighborhood with them, but at average listening volumes in a small to medium sized room, their bass extension is quite impressive considering their size (and price). Sure, you'll still need a subwoofer, but for home theater you'd need one anyway. I have them crossed over at 90 Hz to the sub.

Here is another, more upscale version:
https://www.amazon.com/Micca-RB42-Reference-Bookshelf-Speaker/dp/B07JC416LG

Just keep in mind, they are 4 Ohm and low sensitivity, so make sure your amp can handle it.

I bet those Daytons are more than adequate as Front L/Rs.

The a/d/s L200 was the champ amoungst these small speakers -if we disregard the ultimate Rogers BBC L3/5A monitor or the **** Sequerra Metronome 7 or KEF Reference 101.

They were a bit pricey but manufactured just down the street from where I lived near Wilmington, MA.

I d have tp look at timeline but I think the Minimus were later realised approximate "copies" of the A/D/S.

The A/D/S were HiFi and moderately high output with tonnes of power required.

L200

Ah, the darlings of early the youtuber Zreviews.

Funny thing about cheap speakers if you throw enough differing parts at something long enough you may accidentally make a good sounding unit.

A Lot of the Small RS wood cabinet speakers were very listenable. I think there was a Real Talent behind many of those though. Very Henry Kloss - "ish" but likely not. Kloss inspired more likely.

I will have to research. I've piqued my own curiosity on this subject.

AFAIK, his early review was of Micca MB42, some 6 years ago. The ones I linked to above are the newer RB42, which are much improved and much more expensive. I think Zreviews reviewed them recently as well, not that I care much about his reviews, other than his somewhat colorful delivery.

Here is one comparison write-up that I found:

As far as the Daytons, one issue with them is port noise when you play them louder. This is typical for small ports. Crossing them over at 90 Hz, like I do, eliminates the problem. I think the Miccas have similar problem.

I watched Steve Guttenberg interviewing the designer/manufacturer of OHM Walsh speakers a little while ago.
He said the early versions of the speaker were finicky .... it took 300 watts to drive them and 310 watts to blow them up
