Songs That You Never Understood

It’s a great song but I have no idea what the lyrics mean.
That has to be the winner. Bizarre lyrics. BTW the place is just MacArthur Park. The song writer got even that wrong.

Spring was never waiting for us, dear
It ran one step ahead
As we followed in the dance
MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet, green icing flowing down
Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
'Cause it took so long to bake it
And I'll never have that recipe again
Oh, no
I recall the yellow cotton dress
Foaming like a wave
On the ground beneath your knees
The birds, like tender babies in your hands
And the old men playing Chinese checkers by the trees
MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet, green icing flowing down
Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
'Cause it took so long to bake it
And I'll never have that recipe again
Oh, no
MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet, green icing flowing down
Someone left my cake out in the rain
And I don't think that I can take it
'Cause it took so long to bake it
And I'll never have that recipe again
Oh, no, oh

Night Ranger, Sister Christian
It's not a bad song, but it just makes no sense to me.... she's "motoring" which I guess is driving?

And, I also never understood why Corey Hart would wear his sunglasses at night, it's already hard enough to see at night without those stupid things!

Paul had a way with words. 🤣🤣🤪

Back in the 70’s Paul McCartney and Wings played one of the first concerts held in the new Kingdome in Seattle. From someone who went, the show was a success. Nobody could understand anything in that giant concrete dome but well over 60,000 attended.

That place was horrific.
Paul McCartney’s song Jet was based on nobody. Not even a pet dog.

Blinded by the Light and The Mighty Quinn by Manfred Mann. I read Blinded by the Light was Bruce Springsteen's song about being invincible in your youth. I always thought "Quinn the Eskimo" was a drug dealer, "When Quinn the Eskimo gets here, everybody's gonna want a dose", or is it "Everybody's gonna want to doze", as in sleep?

A young man in love remembering a day in the Park with his new love.
His love is now lost and he can't regain such love again.

The cake metaphor for lost love is a bit odd and "obscure" as my English prof Gabriel Brahm would note

So chalk it up to bad poetry :)

From John Lennon's stream of sub·con·scious·ness lyric to Come Together:

He bag production
He got walrus gumboot
He got Ono sideboard
He one spinal cracker
He got feet down below his knee
Hold you in his armchair you can feel his disease
Come together, right now, over me

Just noticed John appears to be referencing himself in this verse
