Something affecting 2005 - 2010 Rav4's?

I caught the last part of a report about Ravs. Those were the years affected.The wife was interested in one,but i told her to wait til I found out more about them. Thanks
 
The headbolts didn't strip, they were steel. It was the aluminum block threads under certain conditions (overheating, poor maintenance, etc) that would strip causing an instant catastrophic overheating event. The problem was contained to engines built between 02-04, but may have been used in some 05-06 model Rav's. The problem was resolved by 07 with a design change. The big problem for all 2AZ-FE I4's was and is oil consumption. Some worse than others. eventually clogging the catalyst. Burnt valve seals, clogged piston oil return hole, or in worst case both.

In that case, what would be signs of each... If any.
Clogged catalyst...
Burnt Valve seals...
And so on.

You sound like you have the experience. And is there any mileage window where such problems would become a "sure bet" for the 2AZ's?

Many failed without overheating. And plenty of stripped blocks all the way into early 2009 vehicles.

Yep everything you said were also problems. Also add frequent water pump/starter/alternator failures.

2AZ-FE platform def had above avg issues for a 'yota.

Yes I have exp keeping the 2AZ in my sig alive well beyond its prime. Shes about had it, the whole car is about to fall apart. Transmission is perfect. The engine suffers from bad valve seals and the clogged piston oil return hole issue. both of which occurred prior owner. Its hard to give a mileage the problems occur at, but most forums start complaining about oil consumption at 70-80k. The aluminum in this batch is soft, and the block design too thin, with hot spots around the pistons. Not enough metal near a few headbolts.

The engine has been replaced with a all new 2.5l running 0w20 10k OCI's. all fixed? Nope. The new engine burns oil too. My dads 2013 Camry was down 1qt halfway through a 10k OCI which is scary.
