Some pics of my Corvette!

I asked that guy (who is a friend of mine from LS2.com who has ordered a 2005 Corvette) if he knew if my exhaust was a Z06 titanium one, or just the tips (it was just the tips) I've never looked closely at a Z06 exhaust to know exactly how different it looks from the stock C5 system.

Nice choice !! Going to dragstrip this weekend???

Hehe, I definitely am eager to see how it's going to run, but I decided to wait until Sept 11, as that is the next time my car club is going to the track. Ideally I want my first trip to the strip to be on a day where the temp is under 70 degrees, so by that time it should be. (although lately it's been only getting up to 75 here anyways)

I'd also like to get my order of Fuel Power first (I just ordered it today) in order to make sure my engine ends up being completely free of any carbon buildup (which would hinder my performance a lot). The LS1 can build up a lot of carbon, especially if the previous owner didnt drive it very hard.

why did you get automatic?

I actually prefer automatic. I do a lot of drag racing, so I like not worrying about missed shifts (especially with the LS1 since one missed shift can equal many bent pushrods)

I also drive the car daily, so automatic suits that better too.

I just enjoy mashing the pedal down and having it leap forward as it shifts down two gears, it gives you a rush that I don't get with the manual cars I've owned (including the 6 speed 1998 Formula I used to own, which had the same LS1 engine as this one)

I don't blame you. I find a standard more fun to drive, but maybe that will wear off in a few years?

I guess my issue with automatics is that most of them absolutely suck (slushbox syndrome - no feeling of connection between wheels and engine). In general, I think GM trannies feel good though. I'm sure yours is no exception.
Awesome car Patman.

Congrats Patman! That is one beautiful C5. The previous owner looks to have taken very good care of the car and probably did not drive it much. Paint condition reveals a garage kept sunny day driver. I was about to ask on the tips as they ARE Z06 tips. Any ideas on mods? I know it's your DD and you need something very friendly. If you don't know allready C5 LS1 parts are mucho more $$ than comparable LS1 Fbody parts usually. I would start my opening up the exhaust, you can probably find a set of take off Z06 Titanium mufflers for pretty cheap. The Z06 mufflers sound great and are very quiet at crusing and loafing around town. WOT produces an exotic roar. The Halltech T1 @ Blackwing air intakes are very good designs that give 10+rwhp to any stock C5. Once again Congrats from a jealous SS LS1 owner! A C5 is my dream car!!!!!

I'm hoping to get an appointment with ARE at the end of this week for some dyno tuning. That should give me 10-15rwhp, plus I will get them to raise my shift points too as I find it shifts 3-400rpm too soon for best performance. At that point I'll wait and see how the car runs before I decide if I want to do any more mods. If it runs strongly already, I'll pretty much leave it alone and just enjoy driving it! I definitely don't plan on ever putting in a heads/cam package. I do plan on doing some sort of mod to the airbox, either the zip tie mod or perhaps cutting some sort of bigger opening onto the stock upper lid. The opening on the stock C5 lid is ridiculously tiny.

The tips on it are the Z06 style ones, but are aftermarket. I had originally hoped it was the full titanium Z06 exhaust, but no such luck.

I've already put 725 miles on the car since I picked it up 9 days ago! I'm having the time of my life!

Who cares about that ugly old car, I SAW SPIDERMAN in the pictures !!!!

Congrats....

What ATF are you planning to use in transmission (synthetic I hope)? Have you changed rear differential oil already? What have you used or planning to use in rear diff? What air filter will you be using?

I'll just stick with whatever fluids the GM dealers use when I get the trans and rear fluid done. The transmission temps rarely go above 200F in my driving so far, so I'm not worried about running synthetic.

Believe it or not I'm running a K&N air filter in it right now! That is what it came with and I decided to give it at least one 5k interval to see how it does. If it doesn't do the trick, then I'll go with an OEM AC Delco.

Hehe, my son LOVES Spiderman! He's watched the movie 25-30 times now, and right this very minute he's watching the original Spiderman cartoon on TV. It's on every night at 8:00 here and he never misses it!

Patman,
why would you risk driving the beauty in the winter, when you could put it on a boat, and send it down under to our salt free, dehumidified atmosphere ?

I'd take good care of it....honest.

Nice. You've got to love a black/black Vette.

I'm a manual guy too, but I like an automatic in a Corvette. It complements the car's personality as a torquey GT very well. Plus, the GM autos are top-notch.

congrats!

And I improved on it even more yesterday, by getting the car dyno tuned and one of the things I had them change was the shift points. So now it holds the WOT shift points so that they are 300rpm higher than before, as the LS1 engine should be revved out to the redline for it's best quarter mile performance (I experimented with this on my 98 LS1 Firebird six speed and found it liked 6200rpm shift points better than anything else)

Another thing they did was change the time it takes to make the shift too. So it goes directly into the next gear without any lag. And they got rid of torque management too, which is a GM "feature" where the spark advance is backed off on the shifts in order to lessen the stress on the trans, however it slows the car down quite a bit.

So now when I hammer it from a dead stop, the car lifts up it's front end quite nicely (not quite lifting the wheels mind you) and then on the 1-2 shift it plants you firmly in the seat. I also picked up 11rwhp and 11rwtq with the tuning, so it's running nice in that respect too. I'll be taking it down the quarter mile for the first time in 3 weeks.

Congrats Patman! I was wondering if you were gonna have the torque management option deleted when you had your C5 tuned. It really makes a difference in how the trans shifts. 11rwhp @ rwtq gains are very good on a stock C5 with tuning. It's really amazing how well the LS1 responds to a good tune. After installing my stage II heads I baselined at 390rwhp. After a full LS1Edit tune I closed at 416rwhp. It's nice to find 26 rwhp with some tuning.

26rwhp is an awesome gain! It shows you that on a car with mods you can gain a lot, but even on stock engines there is a lot of room to gain too. My car initially had an A/F ratio of 12.6 to 1, but now it's 13.0:1.
