Some pics from the lawnmower department

Looks the inventory of cordless lawnmowers at my local Home Depot exceeded the gas powered ones. Rhyobi and Dewalt is being stocked. The Dewalt can hold two 12 AH batteries. That’s a lot of Vampires! 🧛‍♂️🦇

I just picked up the ryobi 40v one 40v 6ah batt.. picked up a 2nd original ryobi 40v 6ah battery factory packed off Ebay $118 shipped. Beats the $199+ in store price and after jumping around Amazon and Ebay comparing the knock off 40v batts, I decided for the extra $30-40 to go with the ryobi.

Does the eBay battery last similarly to the one from the box store? Lots of knockoffs and fakes online...
Haven’t used it yet. But I’ll sure compare it to the box store batt before cutting into the package. Seller does accept returns/refunds

Most eBay batteries I have seen are indeed not OEM batteries, but either outright fakes or look alikes.

I bought a Rigid battery for my drill/impact wrench from eBay. Or I thought I did. It didn't take much inspection to see that it was a knockoff.

I wouldn't mind getting knockoffs if they performed similarly to OEM.

Hopefully these tho I models are better than last years. Last fall there was at least 8-10 returns discounted for resale sitting in a row, all dirty and used. Either these people were being cheap and “rented” them for mowing season or there were issues with that model.

I think battery powered tools will eventually take over for gas consumer products, maybe completely in the future but I’m not ready until battery life is much better due to the size of my lawn and having to pay $160 for a new battery that can become obsolete in 3 years. A universal battery would be great but manufacturers would never agree to such a system. I like the convenience of pouring in some gasoline when I need to recharge.

Just to test the theory my 20v 5AH Dewalt battery is still being manufactured and sold. I bought my trimmer with it 4 years ago ( this is season 4). A new 20 V 5 AH battery is $65. It still fits all the Dewalt tools so no obsolescence yet. There is a new 20/60 V 12 AH flex battery available that will be very useful in the future and power the new Dewalt lawnmowers, but still fit the trimmer.

They’re not going to… there’s a reason why they’re cheaper. Either the batteries are not up to capacity and/or made in china. Some outright lie and slap different labels over used batteries (I’m talking about the actual batteries within the housing.)

I have knock off 18v 4ah ryobi batteries and they work great 4+ years later. I just couldn’t wrap my head around how flooded my search was for the 60v big jobs and although many positive reviews too many negative ones stating the battery didn’t perform as the OE ryobi.

I have first hand experience with both ebay batteries and Amazon "replacement" batteries, and neither have the life of the OEM batteries. Whether the cost difference is worth it depends on your use case.

The thing is, a vendor that will lie to you about his battery being OEM will be more than willing to lie to you about the capacity of said battery.

Chinese vendors routinely claim that their 18650 cells have two or three times the capacity of first tier Japanese cells. They don't. Every time they are tested that I have seen they fall behind good Japanese cells, must less their wildly exaggerated capacity claims.

Update, Ebay battery may be better than battery shipped with mower. I didn't use a stop watch but so far all my mows feel equal in time. The Ebay battery held onto an extra fuel bar on the battery meter during a mow.

How long does a full charge last? I know there are different capacity batteries. Lets just say a middle of the road capacity. My lawn takes 25 mins to cut. How long would a charge last? 2 cuts? 3 cuts? Do you charge after each use?
Thanks In Advance
My Toro electric mower came with a 60V 6AH battery. It will mow 1/3 of an acre without breaking a sweat. I don't remember how many minutes but it's about 40 or so.

How does it do in tall wet grass? That's pretty much the default condition when I'm mowing.
The Toro has epic power and short of trying to mow hay with it, nothing phases it. My yard is a Florida rural yard and the green stuff grows like crazy. It will mow exactly as well as my LawnBoy 6.5HP, which is to say, fantastic. The drainage swale in front of my house regularly has knee high growth and is always wet. The Toro is the best choice for this, as it's light and easy to maneuver.

NOTE: It also uses a conventional mower blade, not a super thin "electric mower" blade. That means it can take the abuse of running into debris like any conventional mower.

Probably same technology in all the electric mowers. My ryobi just hums along until you hit heavier grass the rpm’s vamp up then come back down when it doesn’t need the extra torque.
