Sombody's Using STP?!?

So I went to Sam's with my wife last night.
They are selling boxes of 12 bottles of STP... don't remember the price, but I was surprised that anyone would be buying any of this stuff. Much less a Box of 12 bottles of it.

I'm actually kind of shocked. I might have 1 bottle of STP I got on clearance for $0.25 back in the day somewhere in my stash. But a box of 12. Geez Louise!

BTW, I went and got another case of 10w30 from Costco with their $9 off coupon earlier today... going to stay away from STP for the time being.

Does anyone have any idea who or what business would be buying this by the dozen?

I don't use STP any longer but just what is the problem with someone using it?

There's a bunch of old farmers in my neck of the woods who have used STP on their equipment for decades and swear by it. Running as much equipment as some of those guys have, I can see where a 12 pack could go pretty quick.

No "problem", just that I never knew people in general didn't do much research on what they add to their car.
I just thought that people got away from this sort of thing. I no longer see a shelf of it at WallMart and was shocked to see 4'x4'x4' wooden pallet loaded with it.

I thought that people evolved past the point of "thicker is better". I guess I was wrong.

I use it in my small outdoor engines as those are hard on oil with splash oiling, air cooling and not the best sealing rings (A lot of blow by and fuel dilution).

Studebaker Testing Products?? Who would use it or any unneeded additive? I thought people used it to dump a car and not have the engine burn oil when someone looked at it to buy.

At the SAM's around here I only find Rotella 15w40 and Trop Artic 5W30 and 10W30 along with various universal hydro fluid.

There is a punchline there somewhere... but around here there is sawdust in the transmissions, as it is easier to pour down the fill tube.

I used to use it due to my grandfather using the fuel injector cleaner every time he changed the oil.

It has it's uses that don't involve ripping people off, like getting a little more life out of really loose mower engines, top off with STP till it quits smoking/knocking so bad. I also use half a bottle in the worn out (when I bought the car silver fluid came out) transaxle in my pos 5 speed sunfire to quiet it down some.

i use it worn motors time to time. uncle has a farmall cub or a something like that. uses it to mow his yard and a few neighbors to. it smokes and burns oil, uses Quaker State Conventional 20w50 with 2.5bottles of stp. tops off with stp. he says it slows the oil burnoff rate greatly.

AVB i never thought of that use, it sounds like it would be great for that use. i know a engine builder, mostly marine, when he does like top-ends he uses performance heads and starts at the cam and goes up. he uses royal purple or cam lube, before lifters drop in he dumps a bottle equally in the lifter bore straight on the cam, pumps up lifter with 15w40syn/stp mix, and same on rocker and valves bottle dumped on them to.
says he does it because it sticks and clings to all the moving parts, providing constant lubracation during start-up and intial run-in. he used lucas put when to vsot and back to stp.
he built me a 377 destroke400 in a s-10 blazer zr1 w/tires and gears, put 37k on and changed the cam and heads and cam still looked new. that with penz15/40/1bottle stp/ 2qt filter. this truck ran 3k at 63mph.

Here's something I was contemplating......what is "better" (or....worse.....depending who you ask):

The STP blue bottle with 4-5 quarts of motor oil.

OR

Lucas Oil Stabilizer (quart) with 3-4 quarts of oil?


Note: figuring, a 5 quart crankcase.....LOS - states to substitute 1 qt. of motor oil for the LOS, and then add the rest regular oil.


Whereas, STP blue bottle is what, 12 oz...? Ans is added to 3-4 quarts of oil?
