Sold the Cruze and Bought a Volt

I attended a seminar at a Civil Engineering conference two weeks ago that discussed building the infrastructure necessary for adoption of electric vehicle use. Odd topic for Civil Engineers, but anyway.....

The presenter was from the Lansing Board of Power & Light which serves Lansing, Michigan. According to the presenter, the cost to fullly recharge a Volt at night is only $1.40 No data on the Nissan Leaf because no one in Lansing apparently owns one (or they have not requested LBP&L to install a charger for them), and the sole Ford electric TransConnect van has been on their grid for such a short period of time that data does not exist for it either.

I found it interesting that CR rates the Cruze "much worse than average" (and the current Focus "worse than average")for reliability and won't recommend it yet the owner reviews I read are mostly postive about the car (I know it's CR guys...just sayin'). I didn't bother to find out what supposed reported problems resulted in that abysmal rating. Are there any smoking guns with this car?...I'd be interested in looking at the diesel that's supposedly being introduced for the 2013 model year.

Despite CR, which imo is a poor source for auto info, most Cruze owners are pretty happy with their cars.

They somehow have managed to make it feel like it's more car than many other cars with similar mileage ratings.
