VW dipsticks and tubes fail far too easily, and what also bites is that there is nobody with exact replacement parts, except the dealer, which will gladly sell you another piece of junk.

Which is funny, because I see far more women with VW cars than men.

Either way, cars as problematic as VW Jettas, Golfs, and New Beetles should not exist.

Americans went to the moon, but it was German engineering and management that made the trip possible. Does the name Werner Von Braun ring a bell?

I believe the problem is rather with the dipstick, who's a complete klutz. He can't help but break everything he touches with his gorilla paws.

It's very odd that VWs wouldn't come with a low oil level sensor, but yet they come with a sensor in the front brakes that shows when the front pads are getting low! My mom's 2001 Golf had that light come on me one day when I was driving it and hit a bump on the highway. The pads weren't even low. So it seems silly to have a sensor in place for something that will only occur every few years, as opposed to an oil level sensor which will light up quite often on VWs, especially if you've got the 2.0 engine.
 
Germans have always had problems with electrical stuff... I remember the alternators and computers that used to come back under warranty when my dad was still working for Daimler-Chrysler, and they housed some Mercedes parts...

Hi,
StevieC - I have owned seven German vehicles with oil level sensors - all have been reliable and accurate

The oldest was in a MY82 Porsche 928 (V8) - the latest in a Boxster reads automatically at all fuel ups. Benz devices have always been accurate in my experience (three cars - 150kkms)
 
I didn't say I had more electrical problems... I said Germans, as in automakers have had more problems with electrical components than other automakers and from what I have seen my dad repair etc.

If your paw worked for D-C, why would he see failed components of D-C cars?

My worst car in terms of electric problems was my Buick Century, which had for only a bit over a year. My best has been my Audi, which I've had for over 12 years.
