Oil Level Question

My El Camino takes 6 quarts of oil, 5 quarts for the oil pan, and 1 quart for the oil filter, it is a Canton Pan with a trap door and crankshaft scraper, and an oil pan baffle. I drain the oil from the engine and oil filter and it comes out to being 5 and a half quarts of oil, does this mean I should only put in 5 and a half quarts of oil since when you drain your oil you do not always get everything out, and yes before I drained the oil I checked the oil level and it was at the full mark.

What did you put in last time?
I'd dump in the 6 full qts, a bit above the 'full' mark won't
hurt anything.

I would just put in 5.5 qts. to bring it to the full mark and then keep the .5 qts. just in case you need to add it later.

1/2 a quart of extra oil won't hurt
