So I was browsing some websites...

" genuine filters from the main distributor" lol. Latest specifications sj/cf. Pretty funny, but the average person has no idea what that means.

I liked the part where they state "If the oil filter needs to be changed",,,,

They're selling a lubrication service so they should change the filter. It's just the way it's done. And they should use only products that meet OEM requirements. Anything less would be technically inadequate.

And speaking of being technically correct, they also advocate engine flushes every 10,000 miles.

"we recommend that people have their vehicle's engine oil system flushed at least once a year, or every 15,000 Km."

I don't know of ANY manufacturer who says to do this.

1 of the 3 main petrol pumps here..

other petrol pump also uses API SJ or something obselete...

and majority of the public dont know about this and get their oil changed from anywhere. they think "oil is oil"

EDIT : oh any changing oil filter is COMPLETELY OPTIONAL.
u can do it after every 5K service, or after two 5K service, or after three 5K service.
just skip filter change if you are low on budget.

And if the oil comes out dirty - aka brown color - the guy will come convincing you - your engine is dirty, it needs flushing.
and he will show an A2 poster kept in his workshop of the engine before and after flushing.

just speaking about how things are interpreted here...
laughing off my frustation :P

Huh?
Why flush anything if not required. They must be using non-detergent oil if they need a flush that often.

Either the general level of understanding of lubrication and filtration is extremely low in the UAE or this is just another quick-lube pulling a fast one.

Guess which one I think is more correct.

there's a low level of understanding, since DIY doesnt exist here. thus people just believe the words said by quick-lube people. And people just crave for OEM products, since sarcastically *nothing is better than OEM*.

Some lubes offer oil changes using oil meant for 3000 km OCI (1865 miles OCI), i dont know what grade is that.
