After 14 years with Verizon I'm thinking on switching to a unlimited data plan either t mobile or AT&T. For two gigs I'm paying almost 100 bucks a month. My question is with unlimited data I've heard if you use too much data they slow down your Internet speed. How many gigs would you have to use in order for this to happen?

I switched from verizon to metro pcs. Bad move on my part. Metros data is way slower. I get booted off line as well as dropped calls constantly. Next weekend ill be going to arizona. I have no coverage between barstow,ca and needles ca.about 3 hrs. Then no coverage once into az. Yes verizon was more but it worked nearly everywhere

I use iPhone for all my internet need, including paying all my bills to long trips to different states using GPS.

I have a "grandfathered" unlimited data plan from Verizon. I have never noticed a slowdown but I normally only use ~3gb per month. My daughter streams music , she uses ~8 gigs and she never mentioned a problem with pandora music. I don't think Pandora requires a super fast data speed though. Good luck with whichever plan you decide to go with.

As much as I hate to say it, since they are our wired video and data competition, Verizon does seem to have the best overall cell product. My company doesn't provide cell service, so we contract with a couple of the national carriers for our company phones. Verizon seems to have the best coverage with the fewest issues.
Pay $60 per month for 2 gigs on T-Mobile pay as you go for daughter. That's a reasonable amount. T=Mobile has some kind of deal through Wal-Mart that's cheaper, but with like 100 minutes of talk.
Data coverage is kind of spotty with T-Mobile, and even voice has sounded kind of garbled in the Los Angeles 'burbs. You aren't going to beat Verizon for coverage. P.S. There are coverage and antenna maps out there on the web so you can check.

Virgin Mobile. Unlimited everything, $45/month. The data limit is huge, I have never managed even HALF of it despite regularly streaming Pandora.

Nice part of the package Sprint deal with voice communications..if you don't have a Sprint network/towers available..you get to use whatever carrier's network is available with No Roaming Charges. So, you can make calls in the middle of no-where (or anyplace you don't get a good Sprint connection)..use the local Verizon network..and it is free. Voice calls always work.
That deal does not include the data deal..but jump on a local wi-fi if no Sprint is available. Never a problem when traveling.

Where are you finding an unlimited plan with AT&T?
The only unlimited plans on AT&T that I know of are for existing customers who have been grandfathered in.

My AT&T grandfathered, unlimited, data, is 5GB at max speed.
It is said to be slowed after that, but I've not noticed.
They're wanting to put a cell tower on the back of one of my properties, so I've thought about trying to negotiate this, or some other aspects of my plans, since I'm an AT&T user.
They'll probably just tell me to pound sand ....

I have Sprint too, and now that they have finally brought LTE to Milwaukee, their unlimited data has finally become useful. If you buy the Sprint hot-spotting for a phone, it is not unlimited data while running the hot spot. There is an app (Tether) that doesn't require jailbreaking the phone that allows you to tether to a laptop (but not an iPad).

I have a friend who is a hobby farmer and he has a cell phone tower on his property. They paid him for the land of course, and he gets a lot of stuff from the carrier for free. I don't think they will tell you to pound sand, as long as it is actually on your land.

That's what I get too. My inlaws make lots of $$ in the same deal, hosting towers in good spots.

it depends on your area, urban, rural look at maps, but I've had great service from Net10. can pay lessa than $40/month when buying 6 months of service n use coupons at kmart. unlimited has never slowed, service is not everywhere as much as major carriers. had sprint n loved it, 10 yrs ago, switched to Verizon, which was great but got too expensive, then went to AT&T n great as well buy price always goes up it seems. I don't want pay 70-120 single line family plans cheaper of course unless u pay whole bill.
big fan of net10, which is same as straight talk, that's owned by tracphone. less than $40/month, no extras charges n has good phones as well, just look at maps first if live in rural areas.

I switched from verizon to metro pcs. Bad move on my part. Metros data is way slower. I get booted off line as well as dropped calls constantly. Next weekend ill be going to arizona. Same here three years ago but when you change your phone your forced to buy a gig plan, just FYI.

verizon was great but too expensive. With metro i get dropped calls and booted off line daily.

Yes, it's my land, in a back corner that is not really commercially useful to me - I'll still have adequate frontage to develop it.
It is AT&T and the money they're offering right now is not all that appealing to me, so if they balk at more money, I thought I might go for concessions on my phone services.
