Snowblower coatings?

Won't anything you put on there be washed/scraped off within seconds of snow hitting it? Seems like a waste of time. I can see putting it on when done to prevent rust.

Rain-X binds with the surface. It can be slowly worn off, but I found it lasted about a year, with heavy windshield wiper use.

Most often I see cooking oil spray suggested, because environmentally friendly vegetable oil. That is if you use your own spray bottle with bulk oil, so more friendly than buying cans of aerosol, which haven't contained CFCs for many years but still is a bit of a waste to keep making cans and throwing empties away, as well as more expensive.

Even so, I usually don't bother with a coating unless I start getting excessive sticking. One factor could be that I just go slower, the deeper or wetter the snow. I clean remaining snow off when finished, using a small hand brush, then it has a dedicated parking spot where runoff has nothing between it and the floor drain.
