Snapped Exhaust Spring Bolt!

Hi everyone,

I had to drop my exhaust to get to my oil pan today and snapped off the exhaust spring bolts while trying to remove them.

It's the very first thing that is done in this video...

I'm going to buy new bolts springs and nuts, but any ideas what I can do to get the old ones out?

Had the same issue with my wife's 97 civic. I used a reciprocating saw to get the bolts cut off after they snapped in half. They were rusted right on.

If there's enough threads, you may be able to use the two nut method. Otherwise, vise grips, heat, drill, etc.

I broke a couple exhaust flange bolts on a buddy's Suburban during a transmission R&R. I really didn't want to spend hours trying to get the studs out (the exhaust couldn't come out and it was in a terrible spot) so I used a couple of these guys: http://www.amazon.com/Nickson-Industries-17350-Clamp-A-Stud-1-3/dp/B000COX90M

I was pretty leery, but they seem to be working great. They've been on for 6 weeks. No issues.

haha that guy using an impact on bolts over his head..

He just got a rust shower facial.

Were you using an impact or a breaker bar?

Not to mention, that did not look like an impact socket or extension.

Also, he hit them with penetrant, but the threads on both were dry when he removed them.
