The latest API gasoline engine oil can be licensed and sold beginning May 1st, 2018. My understanding is that this oil has reduced calcium content to reduce low speed pre-ignition (LSPI) in turbocharged direct fuel injection gasoline engines. Since the old "SN" oil is now on sale most everywhere, is there any reason that I should not buy the old oil for use in engines that are not turbocharged or direct fuel injected? Are there any other performance improvements in the newly licensed oils? Thanks for your informed responses.

When SN rolled out, the greatly reduced ZDDP limits sparked an immediate "grab" of older non-SN oils with higher zinc still present. Much the same as when CK diesel oils emerged.
I still have some SL oil left that I keep for older engines.

No reason not to use at all. Be a rebel and use Motor oil designed for Euro vehicles in your domestic.

Since most everything out there is already SN along with dexos1Gen2, which goes a step beyond SN Plus (timing chain protection along with LSPI), I'd stock up on all the SN i could.
Nope! If SN was good enough for your vehicle before - guess what it's still good enough now...
GM was actually being smart and just consolidating. They did have 5w-20 dexos1 vehicles, and just back speced to 0w-20 dexos1 and got rid of the 5w-20 AC Delco dexos1 product. And Castrol, which appears to be the bottle you're showing, actually went along for the ride and do offer more than one 0w-20 dexos1 Generation 2 product. Curiously, they still list a 5w-20 dexos1 Generation 2 Castrol product, so I don't know what's with Castrol's fine print on the bottle, unless they plan on discontinuing dexos1 licensing on 5w-20.
