SN/GF-5 vs C2

According to the Lubrizol Spider diagram, API SM/GF-4 is pitiful compared with ACEA C2-08. I can't see that SN/GF-5 would be that much of an improvement but according to this Gulf Oil article SN/GF5 is basically equivalent to C2 (C2-10 I assume). Is that true?

Why not just graph ILSAC GF5 against C2? The tool includes them all...

Looking at the spider charts, they are not equivalent at all.

I think you're reading way more into that chart than you should--and their own disclaimer says exactly that. The specifications are different, not "pitiful". A big part of that is that all (including the 20w) ACEA oils are dual-rated for use in diesels. That doesn't make them necessarily better, just different.

If the SN/GF-5 spec was so easy to achieve, you'd think the oils would work as well as they do. Even the cheapest SN/GF-5 rated oil has proven to work pretty well.

Thanks for the link. I was looking at an older one without GF-5 and ACEA-10. No they are not the same.
