Which tire would prove to be the more smoothest and quietest tire
over the long term for my 2006 Elantra....the Michelin or the
Cooper?

Which tire has the more realistic treadwear warranty??

I would like to hear from folks who actually have experience
with BOTH of these tires.

Thanks!

I don't have any experience wit the Coopers, but the Michelins came on my 2004 Civic from the factory. They are awful in the rain. They did last about 60,000 miles though.

Didn't like the Michelin's? I'm ready to put 4 on my Corolla. Both Consumer Reports and Tire Rack rate them pretty high. I do think that TR said their wet traction has deteriorated since last test IIRC. May have to rethink my choice and keep an eye on this thread. Also think I've read about more Cooper tire recalls than Michelins.

They were smooth riding, quiet, and lasted a lot longer than I thought they would. Traction wasn't all that great dry and when the wet weather showed up, I was clenching my teeth driving the twisty roads home. My coworker has them on his Eclipse and feels the same way as I do, but hey we're just two opinions out of the many out there. Have you read a lot of positive reviews from other consumers out there?

They seem to be comparable tires, you could just go on price. I personally would go Cooper based on my experiences with Michelins. I don't care for them, including the MXV4's. My opinion only.

My dept puts Cooper CS4-V's on the Ford Crown Victoria CVP's. They seem to ride kind of stiff, even with the tank-like weight of the Vic. The CS4-T's might ride a bit better. The T's are rated slightly better for snow and wet traction by Cooper, too, if I remember right.

Hi team:
No first hand reviews from friends/neighbors/co-workers. Just usually read Tire Rack actual tests along with Consumer Reports (for what they're worth). Michelin reviews on tire rack from customers seem reasonably positive.

+1 on Michelin MXV4 being very low traction tire in the rain. I had a set and they were very bad. My sister and her husband had a set on there new Grand Marquie a few year ago. I noticed the tires, and warned them about how bad they were in the rain. About a month later she told me that they were in the rain not going very fast and tried to stop, and slid through a stop sign. No one was in the intersection and no damage was done. She said they got rid of them and put something else on.

There are several MXV4 versions: Energy MXV4 S8, Energy MXV4 Plus and Primacy MXV4. The Energy MXV4's are not so good on wet but the Primacy MXV4 is much better on wet and snow.

The Primacy MXV4 is ranked second behind Goodyear Assurance ComforTred Touring in customer survey for Grand Touring All-Season. But in the category "Would Buy Again", it has the highest rank at 8.2 and the second is Bridgestone Turanza Serenity at 8.0, Goodyear Assurance ComforTred Touring is third at 7.9.

exactly...I'm not sure what tires people are actually talking about in this thread. I have a hard time believing the Civic mentioned in this thread came w/the Primacy MXV4 as OEM tires?

I have the Primany MXV4's on my Freestyle. They're awesome in the rain--and I live in Seattle, so I'm, well, driving in the rain....a lot...

They're great tires, and I'll probably get 100K miles out of them. When they finally die, I'll buy them again.

I had a similar experience with the Energy MXV4 S8s that were on my wife's Accord - very slippery when wet! The tires still had 90% of the tread depth remaining but I had to replace them due to the safety factor. My wife had complained about siding and spinning the tires when taking off from a stop in the rain.

The V rated Cooper CS4s were a HUGE improvement in wet traction over the Energy MXV4. She's still very pleased with the CS4s after 2 years.

I never had Cooper. I have Michelin Primacy MXV4 H tires, and would recommend them, but I can only compare them to Goodyear... smoother, quieter, and better traction than Goodyear.

If you primary criteria is smooth ride, you may also want to look at Michelin Harmony. I would also suggest you call Michelin customer service for their advise. They actually have some customer reps that know cars and tires. For example, they suggested the Primacy for my car, instead of the Michelin Exalto (Exalto was recommended by Michelin web site for my car).

There is a $70.00 rebate this month. http://www.tirerebateshq.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/Michelin-11-28-2011.pdf

Also, when you buy 4 higher end tires, you can negotiate more on the price. Check the delivered price from tirerack.com, and buy from a local dealer that will include installation for the same price.

I have the latest and greatest Primacy MXV4's on my Entourage and they are great! Quiet, solid handling and great in the rain and snow (not much snow this year thus far). Had them in some major downpours last summer at highway speeds and felt completely confident- no worries about traction. Ride quality is very good, impacts are well absorbed and they corner well (for a van, anyway).

Had the CS4's before (on an old Elantra), was not impressed with the quality as they were very hard to balance and took a lot of weight. They were good in the rain and snow too! Quietness is relative in an old car- they seemed okay.

I had a set of the T-rated CS4 Tourings installed onto my friend's 06 Prius. I have a 2011 Prius with the H-rated Primacy MXV4.

The CS4 Tourings were not as grippy nor as comfortable as the Primacy MXV4. The Primacys feel like a "stiffer smooth," if that makes any sense-- which is better than the choppier ride of the CS4.

Then again, I am comparing these tires on two different platforms. I'd still take the Primacy MXV4 though, as they handle better and have better traction IMO.

well i think it's a no brainer, the cs4's are nearly half the price and according to this thread and probably every other source you will find online they are very comparable to the Michelins.

Just purchased a set of Primacy MXV4's this AM. Raining-roads wet. Absolutely no issues regarding wet traction. Put about 100 miles on them just to see how they performed. Excellent tire. One caveat: they replaced a set of Goodyear Integrity's that are classified as low rolling resistance. The Integrity's were terrible in the rain/snow. Slightly firmer ride with Michelins, but I'm willing to trade that for the ability to stop on a wet road.
