Pulled one of my famous stunts this past weekend. Living in the far reaches of West Texas I had been making plans to replace tires on my 07 Toyota Avalon. OE was Michelin MXV4 S8. 41200 on tires. 2 had 4/32 and 2 with 3/32. Last couple of thousand miles had been difficult because I had been to 4 different tires shops to try and get the Michelin's to balance. No luck. Constant vibration.

I had decided to purchase the Cooper CS4's. Problem was could not get them delivered out here in the wilderness. Distributor was out of my size, not sure when they could get them, yada-yada.

After hearing of Kauffman tire here on BITOG I found that they have stores in the DFW area. So onward to my stunt. Checked on their website and found my size in stock at the store in Ft. Worth. 325 miles one way. So after making a reservation online (with an extra $10 discount for scheduling online) for 1pm on Saturday I took off early on Saturday morning. 5 hour drive. Arrived at 12:20 and Kauffman Tire was quick on the service. In the service bay by 12:30. Out the door completely reshod at 1:15pm.

After 500 miles of driving these are my observations of the Cooper CS4.

Ride comfort much better than the Michelin. Even thinking back to when new I think the Cooper rides better.

Much less road noise. Didn't realize how much the Michelin's had increased in noise. Much quieter now.

Cornering seems to have less body roll. Plenty grippy and responsive for my purposes so far.

Much less wobble and searching over grooved pavement.

No rain to drive thru yet so no info.

This is my 7th set of Cooper's so I am familiar with them and have always had good experiences.

Expect nothing less now.

Why don't order Cooper online and have them installed by local tire store ? Driving 600 miles round trip for a set of 4 tires is too much, and what can you do with warranty in case one of the tires failed ?

I wonder if the lifeliner's would be "softer"?

My co worker with the beater w/cs4s says he's down about 20 percent in gas milage....

Hard to say, as this car has always been iffy on mileage. I have to get a new fuel filter and learn how to change it as the '93 tempo I had awhile ago was easier to change.

Hmm..I guess I should take a good look at the tire then. Since cooper's tend to be sportier (at least with better handling), that might explain the MPG issues...though they tend to wear well...
