2003 Dodge Durango 5.9L, 4WD. 97,100 miles. Not sure how to describe this, but after shut off, there is a burnt smell (not like a fire burnt, electrical burnt, or belt burning smell). Do some cars have a unique odor after driving? Transmission fluid is fresh, engine oil is fresh...not sure what to think? Been like this since 89,000 miles...just assumed it was normal for this truck. Hope that makes sense? Thanks.

Never seen any oil leaking on the gound...it sits in same spot for weeks sometimes. Can there be leaks only when motor is running...then gets burned after shut off? For what it's worth does smell like burnt oil. Will have to look into this angle...appreciate it Astro.

Mine smell like the Beer Store, everytime I fill them up at Petrocan gas stations. I think they’re overdoing it on the ethanol side or using one of particularly smelly quality.

Yeah, small weep when running. Maybe back of a valve cover or something ... Drips onto crossover pipe. Vapors are blown away by vehicle movement/fan driven air. But when you shut it off sitting still, that last drop hits the hot pipe and smells.
A while back a coolant drip landed on the exhaust pipe and made a unique (undefinable) burnt smell.
So you'll be monitoring oil level as well as coolant level as part of your search.

I had a 2015 Subaru Outback that from brand new had a burning smell after shutoff. FWIW the dealer told me it was not an issue, but I didn't have the car long enough to know if it would be a long term problem.

I used to get a burning oil smell after driving my RAV4. Never any drips on the ground, never any sign of seepage on the engine hot or cold. Never low on oil so no reason to think it was burning oil. Chased that around forever, changed PCV, etc, nothing helped. A couple months ago I had the shocks and struts replaced, that must've been the culprit, haven't had that burning oil smell since. They were pretty much trashed, so must've been leaking onto something hot.
