So I just finished filling the washer fluid in my cruze, and I happened to see this guy on the A pillar. He/she was about 7mm long, and was sitting there, watching me with his big black eyes. I pulled out my phone to take some pictures, and quickly noticed that this wasn't an ordinary spider. He watched me. I could see him turning his head to look at and follow me. He slowly followed me down to the end of the hood, and back again. He followed me! The whole time I could see him looking around, and then back up to me. I put a stick down on the hood and he jumped onto it, and kept jumping back and forth across the forked pieces. If I picked it up, he would start walking towards the other end, and blended in pretty well. I eventually put him in the grass. The whole time, he just watched me. It was pretty cool. I don't like spiders inside, but smaller ones outside like this are okay. Especially because I felt like when I looked into those eyes, there was something halfway intelligent watching me back. It was interesting. I posted these pics and video on whatsthatbug to get an identification. I know it's a member of the jumping spider family salticidae, but beyond that I don't know. It almost felt like it was playing with me. I did read once that jumping spiders have very good vision and are quite intelligent for spiders/insects, and have distinct personalities.
