I know this isn't what you are looking for, for an answer, but why not have it done professionally and not have the mess or the bother?

I get my truck done twice a year for $60 and they clean/detail the dash etc. with it.

Who knows, Dave - like me - may have six cars to take care of. That's a lot of coin to spend on interior cleaning.

I have a carpet shampooer at home (great if you have pets) with an upholstery attachment that works well with automotive interiors.

Bissell Green Machine (about $60.) Or buy a Bissell Pro Heat Referb for $30-40 more and use the upholstery attachment (we do.)

Rent the one from the grocery store and get the upholstery attachment. They do a great job, better than any of the home ones I have seen. Rent it for a day do all of your cars!

X2. I use my little Green Machine for everything. Also a can of Tuff Stuff does wonders too in between shampoos.

All of my vehicles have fabric upholstery so I don't need anything special.

I have a 2gal pump sprayer and my shop-vac that I use to clean the insides every year or two. I spray everthing, starting from the top and in sections, with a diluted cleaning solution. After I have everything cleaned I go back over it with a clear water rinse. I have been known to use the garden hose for the rinse. Some grease or spills require brushes and multiple spot cleanings.

After everything is cleaned and rinsed I just roll the windows down and leave it out to air dry. Sometimes I'll drag the big shop fan over, open both doors, and blow it in one side and out the other in the sunshine.

It really does a heck of a job.

Ditto on the Bissell Green Machine. I've had one for almost 10 years now, works great both on interior upholstery and especially in the car. You'll be amazed and disgusted at the stuff it'll pull out of the seats & carpets even in a newish auto.
