Small TV for a kids Bedroom

Shopping for a 40” TV.

43” seems more standard but using a cardboard cutout to visualize, 43” seems way too big for the room. 32” is also more standard but seemed small to us. So 40” it is.

I’ve been reading that with 40” there’s really no great choice. Cheap TVs all suck in some way or another apparently.

I was debating on some TCLs (s3 (old model but Amazon still sells it new) or q3k (current model, about the same price if not cheaper than a 2 year old model).

I read that the s3 should integrate Apple air play or screen mirroring pretty easy as it has Apple home kit. The s3 being older is not the same LED tech as the q3k, though. That’s my main take away for the pros and cons of these two.

Hisense a4 was also being considered.

TCLs are Roku/google, Hisense is fire OS. Not sure what’s better or worse. We aren’t a very high tech family.

These are all in the mid $100 range.

Again, this is for a kids bedroom. She doesn’t watch much TV to begin with. A lot of times she’s watching competitive dancing as she’s pretty deep into dance company stuff. The dance watching comes from certain apps she has on her iPad which is why I thought ease of screen mirroring could be important, but my wife doesn’t think it should be a selling point on a TV for her, that it’s not that important.

Any advice?

TCL or Hisense is fine, I prefer Google OS. For $100 it's really not worth overthinking.
That’s what I do haha. I overthink it all, but our purchases are typically all long term as well, I hate to throw money away no matter how much it is.

I just bought the $118 Hisense 40" 1080p Roku TV for my office. It has a nice picture. Was from Walmart. I do not use Roku but have an Apple TV HD connected to it.

EDIT: I do think you can AirPlay/screen mirror to the Roku TV from an iOS device.

TCL have been some of the best i have bought even though there cheap. Great picture and last years. Like others have said don't over think this simple purchase.

Having grown up with CRT standard definition TVs, the cheap HD flat screens are a world apart. Any negatives from the reviews on $100 TVs are just silly.

TCL have worked great for me. I prefer Roku system but they make them with all of them I believe. I have the 50S451 and it’s been a great TV for two years. I’m sure they make a 40 inch. I had originally purchased a 43 inch but got upgraded to a 50 inch when Walmart was out of the one I bought for store pickup so I got a free upgrade. Couldn’t beat that.

Being a dad of 3 now grown daughters I don't recommend a TV in there bedroom instead install a above bed reading lamp and a library card you will thank me later
I understand. We’re pretty anti tech. Not allowing them to have cell phones when absolutely all their friends have them. But I grew up with a tv in my bedroom around the age my oldest is turning. And she rarely watches tv to begin with, nor is she spending time in her room during daylight hours to avoid us. I know tech is changing / ruining kids these days but I’m not so worried about a tv as I am a cell phone or tablet.

Hard to think of 40" as "small". I must be old. :ROFLMAO: But I guess our living room tv is something much larger.

Our kids seem to have wound up with old TV's that we've found. One likes to stream so having a USB port as a "smart" TV works for her, the other has just monitors plugged into computers. I guess it depends on what one wants to watch and how they get it (does anyone hook up coax any more?).

FTR our youngest is in college so I'm not concerned about letting them have TV's now.
