I wonder how old that engine is. It probably started out life in the era of the "black death."

I believe there where wide spread engine sludge issues when the oils of the day didn't stand up to the demands of the engines of the day.

I believe this is mentioned in the Car Bible pages regarding engine oil that have been linked here before.

Of course, that was in the 1980's so unless it got started then and finally did the damage...
